The modern quest for equality among the sexes will never be achieved because it stems from the very false notion that men and women are the same and should be treated that way. Men and women are, by in large, biologically, physically, emotionally, psychologically and functionally different, and they are meant to be that way.
A man giving a woman the same treatment he would give another man can easily come across as being disrespectful from the woman's pov. Same for vice versa.
The Golden Rule only works after it has gone through empathy and context.
