ONE MAN CRUSHES COUNCIL IN POTHOLE WAR USING FORGOTTEN LAW! Retired 68-year-old Derek Bennett took on lazy Hertfordshire County Council after they ignored dangerous potholes ruining roads in Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead. Using obscure Section 56 of the Highways Act 1980, he served legal notices, then dragged them to court when they failed to act. Judge at St Albans Crown Court ordered the council to fix THREE major roads within 20 days and awarded Bennett £1,650 costs. “If everyone did this, we’d have lovely roads within six months,” he said. Absolute legend just exposed how useless councils really are! Derek Bennett, 68, pictured outside St Albans Crown Court, took action after becoming fed up with the potholes in streets in his home village of Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire and nearby Hemel Hempstead

Heat pumps work best when running 24/7, unlike gas boilers you can switch on for a few hours as needed. With electricity ~4.5x the cost per kWh of gas, the economics still don’t stack up for many households ⚡️🏠

@RidyardMike heat pump best run during the day too when air temp is highest, and off by night, so house needs a large thermal mass, ie concrete floors with under floor heating to improve efficiency retain heat

"he was shocked at the 'extortionate' £35 parking fee to stay for over six hours in an NCP car park in Spinningfields, Manchester. On-street parking in Manchester is limited to two hours, with a £50 fine for going over that, or £25 if paid within 14 days" So he took the fine.

Well that's a crumb of comfort anyway. My greatest fear is the planned destruction of our green land. Wouldn't it be easier just to limit net inward migration? Or build on brownfield sites? Or use empty houses? House prices aren't going to go down if you build more houses if you keep demand high by importing more and more human beings to this island.

@2147mill banks do well when inflation goes up , then they can charge higher interest rates on mortages, given they create the money for mortages free via a banck account with negative balance most of the interest is profit!

@lambypies @richardbrunning @iainwoolley I think your find kettles are more like 2.4kws and similar with washing machines. your rarely have both using 2.4kw. even dishwashers and washing machine only use that much in parts of the cycle heating water. for say 10 minutes

My electric tariff falls to 5.5p/kWh overnight in a couple of weeks. The daytime rate is 35p though so I figured a 12kw inverter coupled to a 15kwh battery charged at the overnight price can be used during the day. ROI is 3 years... No brainer surely.

Farmer Luke 🥔
Farmer Luke 🥔@Ondaintreefarm·
I’ve had had a few comments recently about my Posted Potatoes from people saying they can buy bags of potatoes cheaper from farms local to them. If you can, go and buy that bag, support your local farmer! I’m just trying to offer potatoes for people who don’t live near a farm that sells them, but still want to support British Agriculture by buying direct from a farmer like me. It’s expensive to post a 15kg parcel, and unfortunately I’m not Amazon Prime, but I’ve tried to keep the cost affordable for the consumer, but fair to the farmer and to reflect the cost of producing high quality spuds. Farmer Luke’s potatoes is the first time in my farming career that I have been able to set the price for my own product and I truly appreciate every single potato that you guys have brought from me 🥔🚜 If you don’t have a local farm you can buy from, you can order direct from me here: farmerluke.co.uk 🥔📮 #FarmerLuke #DownOnDaintreeFarm #Mrsfarmerluke #spudwife

60% of savings accounts pay interest below the 3.75% Bank of England base rate, reveals new research by consumer site Moneyfactscompare. But the Government still taxes savers on that interest, despite it being accounted for solely by inflation. So the Government has let inflation out of control but taxes savers on the consequences of its failure.

@AvonandsomerRob @simplekevin_ once you hit 60, they there needs to be a reverse mortage which by the age of 80 pays out 100% of your house value then go on univeral credit of the rest of your life and free care home fees?

@simplekevin_ If you need care and own all of your property, you'll end up paying for that out of the equity in your home. Care is extremely expensive you're looking at £50k annually. There's also no motivation for your kids to do well in life if they are banking on inheriting a house.

Is owning your home outright above the age of 65 just a tax liability waiting to happen? The government want your money. Wouldn't you be better releasing 50% of the equity for a luxury retirement?

🚨 MAJOR A40 CLOSURE STARTING TOMORROW 🚨 From 10 PM this Friday, the A40 will be completely CLOSED in both directions between the Westway roundabout and the Marylebone flyover, and this isn’t just a weekend thing - it’s shut until late April! 🤯 TfL is carrying out critical safety work on the 50-year-old flyover, meaning the 96,000 vehicles that use this route every single day are going to be pushed onto local roads. Expect absolute chaos on the M4, A4, A406, and all surrounding routes. Share this with everyone you know who drives the A40 so they don’t get caught in the gridlock! #UB1UB2 #London
