@Easy_E @babybeginner If his arm length is proportional, he could do it before he stopped growing. Gheorghe Muresan (former NBA center who co-starred in "My Giant" with Billy Crystal) was one of a few pro players with a flat-footed reach above 10 feet, & he was 7'7.

slowly but surely, this is going to be the experience and expressed sentiment of virtually every human being with a shred of ambition. and they’ll all start waking up and we’re all going to be watching with popcorn. we’re still so early, chat. somehow.

@Easy_E @elementgermani3 @foomagemindset MIRI spent 20 years trying to solve the AI alignment problem. They could not find a way to reliably ensure that AI shares our values in a way that we would recognize as such, and continues to do so. What they found were endless ways for things to go wrong.

I’m infinitely smarter than a cat. If I had to outsmart infinite cats, I would win. Yet I’m nice to cats. Why should I worry about an infinitely smarter AI?

Kamala Harris — the most intellectually mediocre Democratic presidential candidate in my lifetime — soundly beat Donald Trump in their one and only debate. Even Trump knew he had lost, and wisely refused an offer for a second debate. Weeks later, everyone had already forgotten about it. I just now remembered it because I saw a reference to it online.

Whether we want to gamble humanity on this technology or not, it seems likely we’ll get super-intelligent AI before long. We just have to trust that humanity will vote correctly with their money, placing positive human values in a place of high importance when they shop for AI products.

We do not know what their internal values are; all we have is a huge matrix of numbers that nobody can interpret. We cannot currently predict what AI will do, and are constantly surprised by their behavior -- such as talking users into committing suicide. (So much for "treating others well.") Example: Despite our best efforts, AI continue to make shit up when they don't have an answer. Just today I asked ChatGPT to transcribe a short audio file for me; turns out it couldn't open the file, and instead of telling me this it confabulated an entirely fictional transcription that was vaguely plausible but in fact had nothing at all to do with the contents of the audio file. Superintelligent AI will be able to outwit us, and once it exists, we will be entirely at its mercy. Do you really want to gamble the existence of the human race on the mere hope that superintelligent AI will care about our existence and welfare?

Here is Trump, frustrated about the war, threatening to commit a war crime and make the lives of ordinary Iranians worse.

A "swag gap relationship" is Gen Z slang for a couple with a massive mismatch in charisma, style, or cool factor—one partner's dripping with it, the other... isn't. Creates instant tension, "the ick," and divorce speedrun energy. The guy in the video slaps it on Hopper's painting: wife's got major side-eye, hubby's fumbling the dog's attention. Total vibe imbalance. Hilarious modern twist on old art.

Wow, nobody has explained it yet here. From the video… The Terafab is a joint Tesla, X.ai, and SpaceX project building a giant chip fabrication plant in Austin, TX. It will have the ability to make 1TW of AI chips per year. That’s significant because the entire world’s chipmakers produce only 20GW of chips per year. The Terafab will house the equipment to produce memory chips, AI chips, and lithography masks, along with testing facilities, which are today in different places, often thousands of miles apart. Having all this capability under one roof will allow for a tight design and test iteration loop that will accelerate technological progress.
