1/🚨🚨Wave Life Sciences has presented updated clinical data from its INLIGHT clinical trial of $WVE-007 - Wave’s GalNAc-siRNA candidate for treating Obesity and type II diabetes and a potential rival for $LLY and $NVO successful GLP-1 drugs. Unfortunately the data isn’t promising at this point! After 6-month of follow-up, a single 240 mg dose of WVE-007 (INHBE GalNAc-siRNA) led to a placebo-adjusted reductions in visceral fat (-14%; p<0.05) and total fat (-5%), stabilization of lean mass (+2%) and reductions in waist circumference (-3%) and body weight (-1%). The key factor here is of course how much body weight loss was observed. Just 1% loss of body weight is insignificant when compared to Novo Nordisk’s and Eli Lilly’s successful GLP-1 drugs and today’s results almost entirely eliminate the possibility of WVE-007 to become a viable therapeutic alternative to Eli Lilly’s tirzepatide and Novo Nordisk’s semaglutide. $XBI

They’re also only using 2.5 and 5mg tirzepatide. In Lilly’s SURMOUNT-2 weight loss trial in T2D, the 10 and 15mg cohorts were at about 8% loss at 16 weeks. It’s fine if the idea is “look what a difference this makes” but I really don’t care for it when they don’t label that they aren’t using the most effective doses - so it looks like a bigger dunk on tirzepatide than it should be.
