what’s an opinion that will have you like this?

I didn’t see a single “it’s gonna be May” meme this year which is personally a massive relief, but culturally a signifier of something much darker.

“Lately, I’ve been thinking about smoking. All the time,” writes author Xochitl Gonzalez. “With each passing day of this absolutely deranged year, my desire to contemplate how to make sense of it all while puffing on a cigarette grows.” Part of this smoking thing is a yearning for the past, admits Gonzalez. Not in an effort to recapture her youth, but to recapture an approach to time and life. “I can’t personally slow down technology or fix media or the demands of capitalism or any of the other existential things that have crept into our lives,” she writes. “But maybe what I can do is stop what I’m doing, ask somebody to come outside, and take five minutes to slow down with me while I engage in the very dangerous act of holding a flaming stick to my face. This could be my rebellion.” Read Gonzalez’s full essay: nymag.visitlink.me/55vbET

CBS News: A 33-year-old Cuban man died in ICE custody this week, the 18th detainee death reported by the agency in 2026, according to a notice sent to Congress. ICE is on track to surpass the two-decade high in detainee deaths reported last year and record a new all time high.

#ThePitt star Patrick Ball says being on the show has given him financial security: "It put me in a position to make $750 a week on 'Hamlet' and not worry about it. I'm going to be able to pay my rent. Having something like 'The Pitt,' which hopefully will continue to be part of my life for a long time, is really empowering. It means I don't have to make artistic decisions based off of financial need. I can make it off of my creative curiosity, and I can do projects that I believe in." wp.me/pc8uak-1lHbD2

@nobodylikeyou_2 @ringdinger7000 No I don’t remove it to drink or eat because that would break the seal. I just eat before I go. I go to events for work, medically vulnerable people deserve to be able to live our lives in the world safely. Consider why seeing someone in a mask triggers you so much
