Presented at #KidneyWk: In the PISCES trial involving participants receiving hemodialysis, fish oil (n−3 fatty acids) was compared with corn-oil placebo. The rate of serious cardiovascular events was lower with daily fish-oil supplementation. Of course it’s misleading and it’s meant to be. The beneficial message would speak to excessive consumption. The fact is that moderate consumption leads to a tiny risk. Moreover, moderate consumption is linked to lower all cause mortality than abstaining. Let’s put that on the label.

@tomcwark @closerlook_pod @DanMalleck The labels being proposed don’t state relative risks. The labels simply state that alcohol increases the risk of cancer, which is a fact. Nothing about this statement is misleading. Once people are informed they can speak to their physician for more specific risk quantification.

@EbethFarkouh @closerlook_pod @DanMalleck Of course it’s possible for it to lead to misunderstanding, particularly if you only state the relative risks of moderate drinking and not the absolute risks…which none of the anti alcohol fanatics do.

Alcohol minimum unit price saves lives. It’s also targeted at the most vulnerable and heaviest drinkers. Time to put people’s lives before industry profits and introduce in England @wesstreeting @Keir_Starmer

Alcohol is the third leading cause of cancer deaths in North America. The World Health Organization has explicitly stated that “no level of alcohol consumption is safe for cancer risk.” Cigarettes come with warning labels — so why doesn’t alcohol?

Three years ago, the CAPE Community of Practice was just an idea. Today, it’s a thriving network of 600+ members advancing alcohol policy across Canada. Could this be a model for public health collaboration? Read our blog for more info: ias.org.uk/2025/03/27/an-… @EbethFarkouh
