Of course it’s misleading and it’s meant to be. The beneficial message would speak to excessive consumption. The fact is that moderate consumption leads to a tiny risk. Moreover, moderate consumption is linked to lower all cause mortality than abstaining. Let’s put that on the label.

@tomcwark @closerlook_pod @DanMalleck The labels being proposed don’t state relative risks. The labels simply state that alcohol increases the risk of cancer, which is a fact. Nothing about this statement is misleading. Once people are informed they can speak to their physician for more specific risk quantification.

@EbethFarkouh @closerlook_pod @DanMalleck Of course it’s possible for it to lead to misunderstanding, particularly if you only state the relative risks of moderate drinking and not the absolute risks…which none of the anti alcohol fanatics do.
