Most policy fights aren’t about values. They’re about incentives embedded in institutions.

@tennsand @marcorandazza Never said otherwise. This does not change my view that dissolution would be a Pareto improvement. These things are not mutually exclusive.

The Libertarian party has never broken 1% of the vote. Meanwhile, the New Hampshire Libertarian movement took over the Republican Party, and brought real libertarian change. Kauffmann is right. Libertarianism can only survive if the Libertarian party dies.

Why does it need to be replaced by anything at all. It has been more or less inefficient for over 50 years; the ROI has not justified the investments in either financial or human capital. There are other classical liberal organizations that get things done; resources can be diverted in their direction. If one insists on electoral action, the Liberal Party remains an option, albeit not one I have high hopes for.

@KevinOConnor They already did when they traded Garland for Harden. Tbf, "ECF as a ceiling" isn't the worst place to be.

@marcorandazza (Also, Ed Clark in 1980 and Johnson in 2012 both broke 1%. As a rhetorical device, this claim totally fails.)

This is objectively untrue, as Gary Johnson garnered 3.3% in 2016 (and no, I'm not going to argue either things that actually happened or attempts to move the goalposts). Kauffman is correct that the LP needs to die, the irony being that their years-long tolerance of him is a major reason why.

@LPNH is officially disaffiliated. Sayonara, suckers! As @EccentricEcon has pointed out, the damage done by them & @LPMisesCaucus /ilk has been done. It will take a long time to (imperfectly) clean up the mess & go forward. But this is an important big step, & long overdue.

5️⃣ The punchline: “save the institution” is not a sacred duty, it’s a budget request for scarce human capital — so the real question is always “save it for what eccentricecon.com/p/save-it-for-…

Y’all still crying over a guy who voted against birthright citizenship, fought DACA expansion, and backed punitive border and enforcement bills? Fuck that guy.

@ProsperCLT2023 @RepJackKimble It’s a satire account, but it’s remarkably accurate at crystallizing the MAGA zeitgeist—which is why so many people keep mistaking it for an actual Republican.

He sacrificed principle for power, bit the hand that fed him, and now the Piper has exacted his price. Hoe well.

I'm not clutching pearls over Massie losing. He spent much of Trump's first administration kowtowing to and running cover for Tangerine Yeezus (Sees Us). He helped make this travesty possible, and even after "seeing the light," he still voted for some dumb, anti-liberty shit
