We are proud to support the Respect and Protect initiative, launching today. This initiative urges businesses to take a stand against the misuse of their products and services for financial abuse by updating their terms and conditions or policies. respectandprotect.au

Good to hear @SupriyaMelbourn discuss her new book "Domestic Economic Abuse - The Violence of Money" today. Supriya worked on these issues for decades (often in collaboration with community/consumer orgs), before #economicabuse was openly talked about. supriyasingh.org

Victorian energy and water regulator @EssentialVic reviews effectiveness of #familyviolence standards for water companies. Great example of a regulator's ongoing work to set standards, support & monitor compliance, and (as seen last month) enforce. esc.vic.gov.au/water/inquirie…

Changes starting today should make it less likely that someone experiencing #familyviolence #domesticviolence will have a payment claim refused, or payment cut off because they’ve been inappropriately assessed as being a member of a couple.

CEO Leanne Ho on ⁦@BreakfastNews⁩: The job isn’t done until the member of a couple changes are cemented in the law, including the ability to waive #Centrelink debts caused by abusers. It’s against community expectations that DV victims/survivors are held responsible

Thanks @ej_australia for providing evidence to Senate Committee re extent/nature of poverty, & need to improve Govt benefits regime incl. need to have better access to social workers at Services Australia.
Economic Justice Australia@ej_australia

'What needs to happen for Services Aus to do their job well?' Ms Sacher: it's about prioritising resourcing, not necessarily needing more resourcing. Good example is having social workers - this would save the system money by giving people access to social workers earlier.
