💙 Week 3 of #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth focuses on JEDI & the inequities that continue to shape care and outcomes across minority communities. ➡️ We’re kicking off the week with a strong blog post from Communications Committee member @AnujaChitre , MS, CGC🧬highlighting key takeaways from the study, “African-Americans Are Less Frequently Assessed for Hereditary Colon Cancer.” 📜 Read her blog here 👉cgaigc.com/post/african-a… 📍The study is an important reminder for providers: family history collection and communication in clinical practice must improve, as three-generation family histories, a key part of hereditary CRC risk assessment, were documented too infrequently, particularly for African American patients. ⚖️🏥 #HereditaryGICancer #JEDI #HealthEquity #GeneticCounseling #ColorectalCancer #CancerDisparities @drfolamay @blackingastro @FightCRC @IssakaMD

Thanks for sharing @EdEsplin important info. While it seems the pandemic may have had an impact on update of universal genetic testing policies, 25.2% is still a large number of people who missed out. We need to get the information out about universal genetic testing policies so that providers can share this info with their patients who can then take informed decisions. #HereditaryGICancer

🧬 “In his own words.” Michael Caprio shares his journey with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), a hereditary condition that can lead to hundreds of colon polyps and a very high risk of #ColorectalCancer. ➡️His story reminds us that behind every guideline, screening test, and genetic result is a person facing life-changing decisions about surveillance 🔎 surgery 🏥and the future. 💡 Patient voices matter. They highlight why early recognition of hereditary risk, genetic evaluation 🧬and multidisciplinary care 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ are so critical. 📖 Read Mike’s story 👉🔗 cgaigc.com/post/in-his-ow… #HereditaryGICancer #FAP #GeneticCounseling #CancerPrevention #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth 💙
