It was fantastic to get back to Eigg to see progress made on two new local homes supported through the SNP's Rural & Islands Housing Fund. It's a joy to see things happen in the region, especially when they're community-driven and have massive impact, like new housing ❤️🏠

The Scottish Government has pursued a different social security agenda to the UK as a whole. Projections suggest that child poverty in Scotland fell between 2022-23 and 2024-25, while it rose in England. Under current policy assumptions, rates are projected to diverge further.

@C_Fitz_ @SMCK40015492 Yeah, great. I just wondered if someone had pulled this all together yet - I'm still working through all the implications myself. Plus what it means for Scotland. People just don't understand the implications.

@EdPybus @SMCK40015492 An online link? An example is, if a young person loses their PIP - the adult who cares for them will lose access to the additional bedroom rate - so will face bedroom tax. Sinead is going to do some case studies, Ed. Keep in touch.

Amazing adviser @SMCK40015492 has pointed out that there are major implications related to housing benefit & the cuts to disability benefits. These cuts will cut through so many of our people's lives. It's devastating - we need to let as many people know as possible.

I am new to this role. I intend to hold regular public meetings so that I can share our thinking as we go forward and listen to the views of others. Not just for crofters - everyone has an interest in the success of rural Scotland. Please join me if you can.

#MayDay feels like a good day to share the news that I've been promoted to Senior Lecturer. I'm so happy and thankful that my contribution to @UlsterUni over the last five years has been recognised in this way. It's given me great motivation to keep going. 💪

Are you are up to date with how recent benefit changes & current issues impact on kinship carers? Our 'Kinship carers and benefits - an update' course on 20 May provides an opportunity to think about some of the more tricky issues and will update advisers on new developments.

Great new report out today on a much neglected aspect of the benefits system- rules on how much capital someone can hold. Reform is definitely needed here, but will need to be weighed against other priorities. Link to the report below (h/t @mollybroome_ @Alex__Clegg & @EdPybus)

🚨 New analysis out today 🚨 Our latest research, with support from @finan_fairness, looks at the long-neglected capital rules within the welfare system. Read the report by @mollybroome_ @Alex__Clegg @EdPybus ➡️ buff.ly/f8Bs1lD

Useful meeting with @S_L_M_Service yesterday. 365 people looking for crofts through the service just now. Very few crofts coming through on the supply side. Huge need to get more land into crofting tenure to help satisfy demand.
