Credlin and Abbott no longer supporters of Moira Deeming. “For a long time, I have been a supporter of Victorian Liberal MP Moira Deeming. She was wrongly accused, and poorly treated by then Liberal leader, John Pesutto, and I stood by her when she tried to get an apology but was rejected. And I was in her corner when she took him on in court and eventually won her defamation case. But in refusing to apologise to Matthew Guy over a claim of rough treatment that had no basis in fact, she has done to him what Pesutto did to her. When you get it wrong, you own up and apologise. Or you bear the consequences. As Pesutto did. And, now, as Deeming has. As a lawyer, I have never subscribed to the view that every woman must be believed. No, every woman (and man) is entitled only to be heard. The question of being believed is one for the justice system - be that a judge or a jury. I wish Moira and her family well for the future. There is no doubt she has had a turbulent few years in the public eye. Her preselection win at the top of the Liberal Party ticket in March was a chance to reset. It's sad that she's squandered that; but, in the end, politics is about character and temperament.
