Can you believe The Fifth Element is 29 today? Still a full-on visual feast: bleached-blond Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich breaking through in iconic style, and Gary Oldman unleashed. In ’97 it was the priciest movie made outside Hollywood. It's still great

Had a fine time at the Edgar Awards tonight. My book was up for best novel. The winner was Robert Crais and The Big Empty. I was pleased by this because he is a fine writer and a good dude. I was also happy because I got to eat beef tenderloin and hobnob with authors I admire.

Met Lee Child in NYC yesterday. He was generous enough with his time to blurb my first book. He'll receive a MWA Grand Master award at the Edgars tonight. I am unsure why it appears my head is projecting a beam of light. Maybe that's just what happens when you meet Lee Child.

In other news….an absolute scumbag at the Cleveland/Rays game today stole a home run ball from a little girl and made her cry….thankfully the Guardians saw it and made it right by bringing her and her brother some signed balls
