@JReubenCIark Same as the weird millennial expectation of the groom being photographed crying as his bride appears being walked down the aisle. At some point this became *a photo* that HAS to be in the mix. So fucking lame and performative.

You guys wanted my take on this, right?
In the abstract, girls will think it's funny to put their play makeup on dad or whatever. I guess it is sort of funny, the way old-time drag shows were funny. I don't suppose that doing this once or twice damages her image of you. But of course now anything that might be cute or funny becomes obligatory and fake, and doing this for other people to see *is* pretty emasculating.
One of my pet peeves is people doing some cliche "funny" thing just bc it's expected. I told my wife I did not want to mash our wedding cake into each other's faces, bc I don't find it funny and if I'm not doing it for us to laugh at then why go through the motions? So she's accustomed to the fact that these weird, rote millennial dad rituals just aren't part of our existence.

Christopher Nolan, responding in Time magazine this week to the avalanche of criticism over his Odyssey casting choices:
"Hopefully they'll enjoy the film, even if they don't agree with everything. We had a lot of scientists complain about Interstellar. But you just don't want people to think that you took it on frivolously."
He built a real seaworthy ship, shot entirely on 70mm IMAX, and spent $250 million. Is Nolan being dismissed too quickly, or did his casting choices earn the backlash?

Can leftists just not be characters from The Camp of the Saints?

Oh my self hatred… Mass libtard suicide is approaching.

@BacLeodiv @WarRoomArchives Um, yeah you do truly win if Russians don't take over your nation. Ukrainians aren't fighting because they think war is fun. They're bleeding and dying to keep their nation free from an atrocious empire they know too well.
English

@WarRoomArchives It’s sad. war is terrible for both sides, and in the end, no one truly wins. Seeing this, I can’t imagine what their families are going through. I just hope there will be no more wars.

@Flav_Bateman "USA kinda sucks" and then he encounters sunny weather, freedom of speech, tastier food, wide roads, friendlier people, far better service, and a healthier economy. Our soccer is terrible, though.
English

@Jason2bartlett Dude Im so glad you and your family are here! I wish we could trade every American who slanders our country for SA farmers. We'd be way better off.
English

@YIMBYLAND Before you build it, imagine for a few minutes the kind of people who would be on a metro car from Austin to SA. Then realize you'd never bring your family on that car. Congratulations, I just saved you $10 billion.
English

Literally just build a train, guys. wtf.
Dion@2024dion
There is already an unbroken line of development along i35 between San Antonio and Austin. The two cities' downtowns are just 70 miles apart, ~the same distance as the Dallas-Forth Worth urban area is wide. How long until they start to merge together?
English

@CPhilly19 Answer: They do not. Band, just show up and cheer and leave your instruments at home, if that's possible.
English

It’s that time of the szn again where we have to ask the question … do bands belong at baseball games?

Longhorn Band is here tonight!

@flatland_sports Drop CU in favor of Arkansas. Much better geographical and cultural fit.

@DeanAbbott We lost a generation of journalist we would pay to wake up and read.

I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again.
Very few people appreciate what America lost when we lost newspapers.
Just being able to sit down every morning in silence and peruse news, opinion, sports, advice, recipes, interesting human interest stories all in one place was such a pleasure.
The Internet has never produced anything that comes close.

@TheOldrGamerGuy @Fat_Electrician If you aren't interested in the pins and medals, there are surely some collectors in your area who would treasure them and preserve them.
English

@Fat_Electrician This is a painful reality. My dad passed away few years ago and I have all his Chilton manuals and steel trains and WW1 and 2 pins and medals(passed down). I cant part with them. A pawn shop just seems dirty.

@monsieurgren Being a nihilist without family and trying to distract from unfulfillment with food and travel would lead nowhere good.
