“When you want to teach children to think, you begin by treating them seriously when they are little, giving them responsibilities, talking to them candidly, providing privacy and solitude for them, and making them readers and thinkers of significant thoughts from the beginning. That’s if you want to teach them to think.” — Bertrand Russell

One of the speakers outside the Supreme Court today was Norman Wong, 76, the direct descendant of Wong Kim Ark, the Chinatown cook who was behind the 1898 case that affirmed birthright citizenship for all. It was not until much later in life that Wong found out about his prominent relative, a measure of how deeply ingrained birthright citizenship has become in the American consciousness and how rarely Wong Kim Ark’s case is taught in schools. “They will be shamed for history if they get this wrong,” Wong said in an interview outside the Court. He attended with his wife.

“They let him rot in there and die like he had no family." Those are the words of Emmanuel Damas's brother. Emmanuel came here legally. He worked. He had a family. And he died in ICE detention from a toothache. 46 people have died in ICE custody since Trump took office. It must end. nytimes.com/2026/03/29/us/…

The vice mayor of Coral Springs- the town next to Parkland- was just killed in an act of gun violence. I’m stunned I was literally texting with her 48 hours ago about her future politcal plans. She had such a promising future. This is so incredibly sad.

For those who may not know or are curious Why is the program called “Artemis”? 🏹✨ • In Greek mythology, Artemis (known as Diana to the Romans) is the goddess of the Moon, the hunt, the wild, and untamed nature She is the twin sister of Apollo, the god of the Sun • The Apollo program of the 1960s–70, the one that landed on the Moon, was named after Apollo himself. Choosing Artemis as its successor is a poetic and symbolic gesture: the twin sister of Apollo now leads humanity back to the Moon, marking a new era of exploration and discovery • NASA announced the name in 2019 precisely for this mythological resonance: Artemis embodies humanity’s return to the Moon in the 21st century, a new chapter driven by ambition, unity, and the enduring pull of the unknown 💫

Nothing against Hasan, love his work, but it’s weird how all left media is ignoring Connie Chan. She’s polling w/in a margin of error of Saikat and has nearly all the local progressive endorsements.

nancy pelosi's seat can go to the antizionist former AOC chief of staff who will be a strong defender of class 1st politics, or a dude who visited israel after oct 7th & defended a CA zionist censorship bill who now sheepishly claims he's an "israel skeptic"

As Trinitys biodiversity officer, I'm very pleased to release the first of 12 snakes onto campus today to help discourage rodents in the area. The snakes should settle in nicely over the summer and will take up residence in the accommodation blocks over the winter. 💚🐍

#OTD (1st April) 1204 Eleanor of Aquitaine died. Eleanor led quite the life' living into her 80s, Eleanor was the only woman to be queen of England and France. During her first marriage to Louis VII of France, Eleanor was at the centre of a scandal during the Second Crusade when she was alleged to have had an affair with her own uncle. Bored of the monk-like Louis, Eleanor agitated for an annulment from Louis who remained without a son, with Eleanor having given him two daughters, so the two separated. After this, Eleanor married the young and energetic Henry Duke of Normandy who was nearly a decade younger than she was. Henry, of course, became the first Plantagenet king of England as Henry II. The marriage went well in the early years with Eleanor giving Henry a batch of children including 4 sons who lived into adulthood, and among them two future kings. But the marriage went sour when Eleanor, bitter at Henry turning his sexual attention towards younger women now that his queen had moved beyond child bearing age, helped incite the rebellion of her's and Henry's sons against the king. Henry was unamused at his wife's betrayal and had her imprisoned for the rest of his reign. Eleanor was only released when Henry II died in 1189 and her favourite son, Richard I, became king. Although Eleanor was now a woman of mature years, she played a crucial role during Richard's reign; from escorting Richard's bride to be, Berengaria of Navarre, to Cyprus where Richard await to helping to raise the enormous ransom to release Richard when he was kidnapped on his return home from the 3rd Crusade, Eleanor's seemingly boundless energy was vitally important to Richard. She was at her son's side when Richard died in 1199 and the dying king allocated the English crown to his hopeless brother John. Even in the early years of John's depressing reign, Eleanor continued to be a figure of reassurance although time eventually caught up with this remarkable woman.

Australia’s Prime Minister has finished his rare address to the nation. He spoke directly and seriously about the impact of the Middle East war, saying the economic shocks are already hitting families, farmers, truckies, and small businesses and that the reality is, these shocks will be with us for months. Key points from his speech: Fuel excise halved, saving 26 cents per litre, and the heavy vehicle road user charge reduced to zero for the next three months. Government working to bring more fuel onshore and secure regional supply to keep Australia moving. Australians urged to fill up only what they need, and use public transport where possible, to save fuel for critical industries. He emphasized that essential workers farmers, miners, nurses, shift workers must be supported first. He acknowledged the months ahead may not be easy and no government can eliminate these pressures. Essentially, he promised to do everything possible to protect Australians from the worst of the war, saying: "We will deal with these global challenges the Australian way, working together and looking after each other."

Today in the ER, we treated a 36-year-old who came in struggling to breathe, his legs heavy with swelling. We eventually diagnosed him with heart failure, stabilized him, and started the necessary treatment. But as the shift settled, the most incredible part of the day wasn't the clinical case-it was the man sitting by the bedside. His grandfather, a man well into his 90s, had been the one to bring him in. Watching him move, I realized he was remarkably fit, so I struck up a conversation with him later. It turned out he doesn't suffer from a single chronic ailment. No hypertension, no diabetes, and in nearly a century of life, he’s never once been admitted to a hospital. There is something surreal about seeing a 90-year-old who is by almost every medical metric "healthier" than his 36-year-old grandson. It was a stark, sobering reminder of the shift in our collective health. In an era of rising metabolic disease, I truly doubt many of us will ever reach our 90s without carrying at least one chronic illness. A rare glimpse of what pristine aging actually looks like.

This is a massive and unconstitutional voter suppression effort aimed at giving Trump the power to create a list of who is allowed to vote by mail. We know where this will go -- the targeting of Democrats for mass disenfranchisement. We will sue and we will win.
