Any computation graph can be realized as a neural network. Good compilers optimize computation graphs to eliminate redundancy. We currently have no such compilers for neural networks. Why?

Here’s a well-posed definition of AGI: if you throw it on a planet does it self-replicate? (God threw some DNA on Earth and a few billion years later Teslas are shooting off its surface)

the USG will have authority over man, and the EAs will have authority over machine
as the balance of power shifts from man to machine, USG’s control of the state becomes de jure only, and the EAs’ de facto

if a point is reached where AI is sufficiently necessary for a viable economy & military
who controls the AI controls the state. control being who sets the guidelines within which AI behaves
allowing the USG to set those guidelines is antithetical to the whole EA project

This is roughly how I think the story has gone down. anthropic: whoa. you used claude for a raid that killed ppl? weird dod: are we gonna have a fuckin problem? we need you to sign saying we can use this as long as its legal a: erm. actually. were ea nerds. heres stuff thats legal that were not ok with dod: ok well were not doing that but we need you on board. youre building a big serious God machine and this is just the beginning a: ok well how bout we go on podcasts and say were not ok with X and Y to make you look like youre doing them dod: ok cool maybe we nuke you from orbit? Furthermore, I think it's very stupid this is happening in public, bad way to do business with the DoD
