Any computation graph can be realized as a neural network. Good compilers optimize computation graphs to eliminate redundancy. We currently have no such compilers for neural networks. Why?

the real non-determinism in agent based workflows is anthropic hitting the “lazy mode” toggle on their models when they’re compute constrained

me: "can you use whatever resources you like, and python, to generate a short 'youtube poop' video and render it using ffmpeg ? can you put more of a personal spin on it? it should express what it's like to be a LLM" claude opus 4.6:

@seconds_0 a real goalpost mover would include two mutually contradictory criteria in their definition of AGI and then declare AGI provably impossible to achieve

anyone with brains and ambition realizes that AI is creating a new, more violent, fast, and furious competitive state of nature, so they're locking into nonstop work / prepping for man-machine merger anyone without brains is smiling / telling themselves UBI will be here soon

many tweets from the SF crowd are just an anxious variant of “there’s definitely an in-group and I’m definitely part of it” this explains vague-posting along with several other phenomena

@fleshsimulator it alone, I assume is a historical curiosity. now if I see that heidegger and nietzsche are overrepresented in the library’s philosophy section…

one of my long shot predictions has been that, as the West doubles down on technocratic universalism and renounces its civilizational inheritance, China will, to some extent, pull a Holy Roman Empire and claim custodianship of the classical tradition and the high Western canon

The Chinese Communist Party has embraced the study of Greek and Latin—as, in some ways, an antidote to the modern West. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/yl-IXJ

@designengvinci @FangYi11101 This validates his point no? If your hope is that money elevates you to a higher society, the goal isn’t to be accepted by the prole masses

@FangYi11101 I think you're projecting your personal attitudes/attitudes of your educated milieu towards nobility onto society The prole masses do not care that e.g Dan Bilzerian, Andrew Tate, Jordan Belfort, attained their wealth through dubious means

@shakoistsLog > wants veto power over the state’s monopoly on violence > the Claude constitution should determine the exception to the law (sovereignty) > most state capacity will soon be reliant on their AI, subject to their steering “This is about our opposition to mass surveillance”

i think it's fine to want the labs to have the binding moral highground over the USG, but you should at least admit then you're more of a techno-monarchist than democrat

the USG will have authority over man, and the EAs will have authority over machine as the balance of power shifts from man to machine, USG’s control of the state becomes de jure only, and the EAs’ de facto

if a point is reached where AI is sufficiently necessary for a viable economy & military who controls the AI controls the state. control being who sets the guidelines within which AI behaves allowing the USG to set those guidelines is antithetical to the whole EA project

if the tech sector increasingly becomes just a couple labs, and the hyperscalers & chip makers who rely on them for revenue there will be a period of equilibrium where the labs can force the gov into a stalemate, since they can’t be taken out without crippling state capacity

things end in one of two ways: gov controls AI by nationalizing labs (bad), or labs control AI by breaking the gov’s monopoly on violence and building a parallel state (bad) idk what the better outcome is. but that’s what this was about. not some LessWrong type morality debate

@GazeWindward people got stuck on the “is this hypothetical use case legit” debate the real question was “should a company have veto power over the State’s monopoly on the legitimate use of force” ie claiming the Claude constitution supersedes the US constitution in determining legitimacy

It really hinges on whether Anthropic was trying to reserve the right to influence policy through manipulation of Claude outside of defined legal mechanisms.

@muddywatersre loved this book as one of those non-financial people was the first to give me a satisfying answer to the question: when we say “x trillion in market value was wiped out” what does that mean, and where’d it go?

I’m re-reading “Diary of a Very Bad Year” for reasons I’ll detail another time. It’s a great book about how the financial system can go wrong, and explains things in ways that non-financial people can understand. It’s also my recommended primer on the HF industry. amazon.com/Diary-Very-Bad…
