The CWASI research project aimed at: • understanding the dynamics of #VirtualWater flows; • investigating the international #WaterTrade network; • evaluating the impacts and feedbacks for #FoodSecurity; • assessing the vulnerability of an interconnected system to crises.

As food and other products are traded internationally, their #WaterFootprint follows them in the form of #VirtualWater, displacing #WaterResources worldwide. #WaterToFood #ERCproject #Horizon2020 @diatipolito

The concept of the #WaterFootprint came after the introduction of the idea of #VirtualWater as proposed by professor #TonyAllan, first developed as a way of understanding how water-scarce countries could provide food, clothing and other water-intensive goods to their inhabitants.

The #WaterFootprint assessment was introduced in 2002 by professor #ArjenHoekstra to evaluate the humans’ use of #WaterResources, exploring the nexus between agricultural production and water consumption. #WaterToFood #ERCproject #Horizon2020 @DIATI_poliTO

#WaterToFood is a follow-up of the EU-funded CWASI -Coping with #WaterScarcity in a globalized world- project born in 2015 from an idea of Professor Francesco Laio. WTF aims at disseminating and communicating the #ScientificResults obtained with CWASI to the general public.

#WaterToFood always aimed at bringing light to the water-food nexus and to the international #VirtualWaterTrade connections communicating and disseminating #ScientificResearch to the world to build a community aware and proactive. Now it boosts his objectives through a new shape.
