@masonq33 @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint I agree that those are pretty different things, and I was also surprised that they blocked our use of their aerospace. I think it basically comes down to their opposing the war happening in the first place, and not wanting to reward a bad actor (us) for starting it.

@masonq33 @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint I can't claim to have a deep understanding of Iran's strategy, but as I understand it they were striking non-aligned countries which did have US forces staging there for the most part? I'm not sure this is true for every country that was struck, but pretty close?

@ElijahRavitz @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint Sorry, I meant to say airspace not bases. But let me roll with this for a second. Who are the parties of this war? Who’s a legitimate target? Who’s been struck? Iran doesn’t care if a target is “legitimate” or not. They’ve also activated terror groups in countries anyway!

@masonq33 @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint Like this is what I mean when I said I want you to actually try to imagine being Spanish or French. I'm not saying this implying it's easy. It's actually pretty hard to develop a nuanced picture of what it would be like to have a totally different perspective on the world.

@GrowlerEnjooyer @ElijahRavitz @TamerlaneD22553 @RandomSprint I’m tired of these people saying things without thinking them through at all and then condescending to us as if we don’t get it. I don’t particularly trust Trump but I do trust the US Military. That’s most of what gives me confidence right now

@ElijahRavitz @GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint It’s absolutely related. I don’t think we should be essentially paying for a country’s defense if they’re going to actively hinder our ability to fight a war. And denying airspace is just that: hindering our ability to fight a war

@masonq33 @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint "we are such an untrustworthy ally, how dare you not pander to us harder" is shockingly not a very compelling argument, but I'm not shocked that people like you would be confused by that. Authoritarians always seem to lack theory of mind for other countries.

@GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint @masonq33 Well, the people who architected NATO and the countries that joined it thought that a defensive alliance was a good idea for you know, defense. Remind me who's pretending not to understand simple stuff here?

@ElijahRavitz @RandomSprint @masonq33 Sure, they are well within their sovereign rights to do so. But then there is no point in the US being in a formal military alliance with such countries, that is the entire point. Why is this such a difficult concept for you to grasp?

@GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint @masonq33 Thanks for clarifying. I think if a country does not want to be involved in a war, not allowing their bases and airspace to be used by one side in the war seems pretty reasonable. If say Spain allows use of their territory to launch strikes they become legitimate targets.

@ElijahRavitz @RandomSprint @masonq33 No one is saying any NATO country was compelled to join the war. But some of them went beyond not just joining by restricting usage of bases and airspace. This brings into question why the US is in a formal alliance with these countries. Hope this helps

@RandomSprint @masonq33 I'm really confused, did you think NATO meant that when the US unilaterally and without consultation declared war on a country everyone in NATO was obligated to help and support the war? Like what could you have possibly believed where this would undermine your confidence???
