@masonq33 @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint I agree though that this is a risky strategy on their part, if it just prolongs the war and makes it more expensive for us without hastening its end then it seems like a mistake.
English

@masonq33 @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint I agree that those are pretty different things, and I was also surprised that they blocked our use of their aerospace. I think it basically comes down to their opposing the war happening in the first place, and not wanting to reward a bad actor (us) for starting it.
English

@masonq33 @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint I can't claim to have a deep understanding of Iran's strategy, but as I understand it they were striking non-aligned countries which did have US forces staging there for the most part? I'm not sure this is true for every country that was struck, but pretty close?
English

@ElijahRavitz @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint Sorry, I meant to say airspace not bases. But let me roll with this for a second.
Who are the parties of this war? Who’s a legitimate target? Who’s been struck?
Iran doesn’t care if a target is “legitimate” or not. They’ve also activated terror groups in countries anyway!
English

@masonq33 @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint But if you are a leader trying to wrangle and alliance it's your job to do this kind of thinking, and unfortunately our currently leader is constitutionally incapable of it.
English

@masonq33 @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint Like this is what I mean when I said I want you to actually try to imagine being Spanish or French. I'm not saying this implying it's easy. It's actually pretty hard to develop a nuanced picture of what it would be like to have a totally different perspective on the world.
English

@masonq33 @GrowlerEnjooyer @TamerlaneD22553 @RandomSprint Welp, I hope you can update your priors as a result of this clusterfuck.
English

@GrowlerEnjooyer @ElijahRavitz @TamerlaneD22553 @RandomSprint I’m tired of these people saying things without thinking them through at all and then condescending to us as if we don’t get it.
I don’t particularly trust Trump but I do trust the US Military. That’s most of what gives me confidence right now
English

@masonq33 @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint Try to put yourself in their shoes and imagine the situation for one moment. Like, I'm serious try to imagine what it's like to be a European in this situation.
English

@ElijahRavitz @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint Wait wait wait? Asking European countries to let us use their bases and airspace is pandering? Do you know what the word means (serious question)?
English

@GrowlerEnjooyer @TamerlaneD22553 @masonq33 @RandomSprint Um, probably because he is literally stupid & hires literal idiots & his own immediate family to do war planning.
English

@TamerlaneD22553 @masonq33 @ElijahRavitz @RandomSprint Wow you really are a genius! Why didn't that stupid Trump think of that??
English

@masonq33 @GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint It is in some sense, yes, but by that logic isn't "failing to bomb Iran themselves" also hindering our war?
English

@ElijahRavitz @GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint It’s absolutely related. I don’t think we should be essentially paying for a country’s defense if they’re going to actively hinder our ability to fight a war.
And denying airspace is just that: hindering our ability to fight a war
English

@TamerlaneD22553 @ElijahRavitz @GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint Nothing says currently winning a war like having a cardboard ayatollah lol
English

@GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint @masonq33 Congratulations on your very successful efforts to rapidly destroy American power. You and Putin and Xi can go hold a party.
English

@ElijahRavitz @RandomSprint @masonq33 Are the "people who architected NATO" in the room with us right now?
If the Euros don't do what we want, we stop helping defend them. Simple concept
English

@masonq33 @MillenniumState @SCDawgin @RandomSprint "we are such an untrustworthy ally, how dare you not pander to us harder" is shockingly not a very compelling argument, but I'm not shocked that people like you would be confused by that. Authoritarians always seem to lack theory of mind for other countries.
English

@MillenniumState @SCDawgin @ElijahRavitz @RandomSprint Except Trump is crazy enough to leave NATO and that is a punishment
English

@TamerlaneD22553 @masonq33 @GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint The thing about wars is that they are not zero sum. We can both loose.
English

@masonq33 @ElijahRavitz @GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint tact and Iran in control of the strait. Winning!
English

@masonq33 @GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint Europe should (and is) increase their defense spending. That is largely orthogonal to this conversation unless you believe we should dump our allies over that lack of spending.
English

@ElijahRavitz @GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint That’s fine, but then they shouldn’t be able to defend on the US to finance most of their defenses
English

@GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint @masonq33 Well, the people who architected NATO and the countries that joined it thought that a defensive alliance was a good idea for you know, defense. Remind me who's pretending not to understand simple stuff here?
English

@ElijahRavitz @RandomSprint @masonq33 Sure, they are well within their sovereign rights to do so. But then there is no point in the US being in a formal military alliance with such countries, that is the entire point. Why is this such a difficult concept for you to grasp?
English

@GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint @masonq33 Thanks for clarifying. I think if a country does not want to be involved in a war, not allowing their bases and airspace to be used by one side in the war seems pretty reasonable. If say Spain allows use of their territory to launch strikes they become legitimate targets.
English

@ElijahRavitz @RandomSprint @masonq33 No one is saying any NATO country was compelled to join the war. But some of them went beyond not just joining by restricting usage of bases and airspace. This brings into question why the US is in a formal alliance with these countries. Hope this helps
English

@GrowlerEnjooyer @RandomSprint @masonq33 This was a serious question. What did you expect NATO meant such that this undermined your confidence? Did you think it was a military alliance where members were obligated to join wars of aggression???
English

@RandomSprint @masonq33 I'm really confused, did you think NATO meant that when the US unilaterally and without consultation declared war on a country everyone in NATO was obligated to help and support the war? Like what could you have possibly believed where this would undermine your confidence???

The solution is called San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport but nobody wants to hear that.
Aaron M. Renn 🇺🇸@aaron_renn
San Francisco needs to fix its airport runway situation for real. Naturally, the last time the city tried to do this, environmentalists were able to kill the plan. It’s hard to imagine a fix happening now, in a more dysfunctional age.
