The average California teacher’s paycheck (present cash compensation that goes directly into their bank accounts, before taxes) is $101,084 in 2023-2024. That is straight from the state’s dept. of ed website. Also, they get free healthcare; they don’t pay any premiums for their own health insurance. That was two school years ago. They got a round of raises since then so it’s fair to say it’s around $106,000 now. The state additionally pays 20% in cash directly into their pensions, so 106K*1.2 = $127,200. Let’s add in the value of not paying social security taxes, too. That makes it about $135,000. A $135,000 to produce results much worse than Florida, where they make about half as much. They just got a huge round of raises in San Francisco too. That isn’t accounted for in the above numbers. And other districts are in negotiation for more wage increases. They own the politicians and don’t care about the budgets so don’t be surprised if I’m quoting $200,000 average salaries for them in 2031.

New teachers often start around $55k–$70k Median teacher salary is about $85k–$95k Average teacher salary is about $90k–$100k Veteran teachers in expensive districts can exceed $110k–$130k California salaries are higher than most states because cost of living is extremely high. The “$140k” is not the typical salary. This Includes benefits. Government workers often have strong pensions, so their benefits add a lot on paper. Many dont pay Social Security But they do instead pay into the CalSTRS pension system So they’re not avoiding retirement taxes they’re paying into a different system. This isn’t a “free perk.” It’s a replacement system. Yes, students attend about 180 days. But teachers, Work additional required days, Work evenings/weekends, Often work summer prep Teaching is more like compressed yearly hours, not part time work. And lets not forget that they have papers and grading that teachers often do in their free time AND on top of that they deal with your crappy kids. Your kids are jerks. It's hard to hear but they are.

Brad Wilcox, the UVA sociologist, was skeptical of Charlie Kirk’s claim that women who don’t have kids by age 30 have a 50% chance of going childless. Then he looked at the data, and realized Kirk was right. compactmag.com/article/get-ma…

I buried 87 children today. Babies conceived through IVF whose parents realized their dignity and wanted to give them a burial that valued their worth as human beings made in the image and likeness of God. Pray for an end to IVF.

JUST IN: Josh Hammer on what would happen to the GOP if the Tucker/Candace/Fuentes Far Right Anarchist Wing takes over the GOP: “If the Republican Party, God forbid, becomes a vehicle for, for Groyperism, for white identitarian politics, for right-wing anarchy, whatever you want to call this particular ideology, that would be the death knell, right? That would be the death knell for the Republican Party as a politically salient political vehicle in America. And because the Republican Party at this time is the only political vehicle that is currently capable of saving America…but that would be something close to the beginning of the end of the American Republic…the moment really does call for the leading men of the moment, folks like President Trump, folks like Vice President J.D. Vance, whoever else wants to rise to the challenge who has the gravitas and the credibility to do so.” @josh_hammer @RealCandaceO @TuckerCarlson @NickJFuentes @CBNNews @benshapiro

I agree that those interested in leadership, history and politics (and law) should read @herandrews essay. The trouble is that grand theories are risky because they tend to underestimate the complex causes of a phenomenon. That is very much true with the Great Feminization Thesis. The thesis leaves out far too much that explains our moment better: massive secularization; the triumph of progressive education; the rise of legal positivism; the sexual revolution and its brand of feminism. These ideological movements have wreaked havoc on culture, education, law, and the relations between the sexes. Until recently, most conservatives viewed them together as progressivism. Far easier, I guess, to point to the *one grand cause* of female group dynamics than to rebuild intellectual foundations, institutions, communities, families. If you want reason to be the effective principle of law -- which you ought -- you need to recover authentic liberal education and classical legal education. And for that, you need robust intellectual and moral formation in families and schools. As it turns out, *groups of women* dedicated to forming human beings in educational settings especially tend to be rather effective stewards of these truths. Theories based in evolutionary psychology with a static, Hobbesian account of human beings as bundles of (masculine/feminine) desires won't get your there. Never has, never will. If your account of the human being -- and human beings working together -- doesn't include basic distinctions between virtue and vice, you're simply on the wrong track. You're observing only a piece of the puzzle, never the whole.
Katherine Boyle@KTmBoyle

This is a seminal essay, one everyone interested in organizational leadership, history and politics should read. We are now in a rare moment where we should be free enough to speak about the causes of the cultural revolution we just weathered, in a way that is true and a warning to our future selves. @herandrews has done a great service by packaging these ideas in a way that resonates. Her original speech is worth the watch, as well. And they should be widely discussed without fear.

Influencer Shay Martin created 12 children via IVF while her husband was dying of cancer. She chose the “healthiest” girl to carry. The other 11 siblings? Frozen in storage at $85/month. She hasn’t decided if she’ll ever “use” them. IVF treats children like products, chosen or discarded at will.
