Thought-provoking briefing from @jconricus hosted by @ElnetUk and the Anglo-Israel Association on Gaza’s continuing tragedy, changing sentiment in Lebanon as Hezbollah weakens, internal pressure on Iran’s regime and the global antisemitism. pod.fo/e/419d7a

At Golders Green today, The King reaffirmed his support for the Jewish community, following a series of antisemitic attacks. During his time at the Jewish Care centre in North-West London, The King spoke to victims of the recent knife attack that took place in the area on 29th April 2026. His Majesty also met community police force, Shomrim, who were involved in responding to the attacks.

Yes. I sat down with Lt Gen John Coll last year (with whom I served in the Army) following his fact finding visit to Israel, and he confirmed from extensive personal observation that the IDF were much more impressive at avoiding collateral casualties than the British or American armies.

“The IDF have sought, albeit imperfectly, to minimise casualties. Hamas has worked to maximise them.” It’s as simple and as terrible as that. Brilliant piece.

Board of Peace
Board of Peace@BoardOfPeace·
Since the ceasefire last October, the Board of Peace has SIGNIFICANTLY scaled up support for the people of Gaza. Food aid is reaching 3 times more people than before. Hamas’ theft of aid has dwindled from 90% to less than 1%. According to the United Nations, nutrition has improved dramatically. We are currently hard at work on the next critical step in Gaza’s recovery: finalizing the process by which Hamas decommissions its weapons and allows for the transition to a new government that will lead the redevelopment of this war-torn region. This will allow us to accelerate aid and rebirth. The “flotilla” heading to Gaza is the performative love-boat activism of people who know nothing of and care even less for the condition of Gazans. It is distasteful to trade on the misery of people to build your social media profiles. For those actually wanting to help Gaza, here is a suggestion: use whatever influence you have to maintain the pressure on Hamas so they fulfill their obligations to pave the way forward for the communities they destroyed. If you would like to contribute to the recovery, we welcome support through established humanitarian channels coordinated by the Board of Peace, the United Nations, and the World Bank, so that your contributions reach those who deserve and need our aid.

ELNET UK is horrified by the violent stabbings of two Jewish men in Golders Green and condemns the attacks. Such acts of hatred have no place in our society. We stand with the victims and the Jewish community and urge authorities to act decisively to ensure community safety.

Tomorrow’s Palestinian local elections may be more important than they look. 90% of Palestinians have been calling for the resignation of the current leadership under Mahmoud Abbas. 85% demand immediate presidential and legislative elections. These calls have been ignored. The last presidential election was held in 2005. But reality is shifting. In tomorrow’s local elections (April 25), a new political current is emerging—organized, pragmatic, and forward-looking. Across 9 cities, lists led by a younger generation—many from mainstream Fatah, alongside independents, professionals, business leaders, academics, and civil society figures—are stepping forward. They are contesting the only elections currently available, representing over 1 million eligible voters. Their common ground is clear: • Change the current Palestinian reality • Reset relations with Israel, the region, and the international community • Advance a liberal, democratic, and moderate political vision This is not just about municipalities. It’s about whether a new political center can emerge from within Palestinian society itself. Watch these elections closely. If this trend holds, it may mark the beginning of a structural shift in Palestinian politics.

Joint statement from the leaders of 🇬🇧 🇫🇷 🇩🇪 🇮🇹 🇳🇱 🇯🇵 🇨🇦 🇰🇷 🇳🇿 🇩🇰 🇱🇻 🇸🇮 🇪🇪 🇳🇴 🇸🇪 🇫🇮 🇨🇿 🇷🇴 🇧🇭 🇱🇹 on the Strait of Hormuz: We condemn in the strongest terms recent attacks by Iran on unarmed commercial vessels in the Gulf, attacks on civilian infrastructure including oil and gas installations, and the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces. We express our deep concern about the escalating conflict. We call on Iran to cease immediately its threats, laying of mines, drone and missile attacks, and other attempts to block the Strait to commercial shipping, and to comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817. Freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle of international law, including under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The effects of Iran’s actions will be felt by people in all parts of the world, especially the most vulnerable. Consistent with UNSC Resolution 2817, we emphasise that such interference with international shipping and disruption of global energy supply chains constitute a threat to international peace and security. In this regard, we call for an immediate comprehensive moratorium on attacks on civilian infrastructure, including oil and gas installations. We express our readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait. We welcome the commitment of nations engaging in preparatory planning. We welcome the International Energy Agency decision to authorise a coordinated release of strategic petroleum reserves. We will take further steps to stabilise energy markets, including working with producing nations to increase output. We will also work to support the most affected countries, including through the United Nations and the international financial institutions. Maritime security and freedom of navigation benefit all countries. We call on all states to respect international law and uphold the fundamental principles of international prosperity and security.

For years, we were told by successive governments that we can’t proscribe the IRGC as it would mean “we can’t talk to the regime”. Now we discover that British officials partied with that same regime weeks after it butchered thousands of its own people. Shameful doesn’t cover it.

BREAKING: 130 cross-party MPs and Peers co-sign letter led by CFI Honorary President Lord Polak CBE and Lord Mendelsohn, urging the UK Government to fast-track legislation to proscribe the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). They welcome confirmation that the Home Office is preparing legislation to proscribe hostile state agencies, including the IRGC. No timeline has been set, however, and the parliamentarians state: "With the situation in Iran deteriorating rapidly and the IRGC’s hostile activities continuing abroad, it is vital that this legislation be prioritised and brought forward urgently." "The European Union has taken decisive steps to proscribe the IRGC. Any delay of action from the United Kingdom risks leaving us out of step with our closest partners."

France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have released a joint statement amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, stating that they are committed to taking the “necessary measures” to defend their own interests and those of their allies in the region, which it states could include “enabling proportionate military defensive measures to destroy Iran's ability to fire missiles and drones at the source,” potentially striking launch sites in Iran.

Iran’s regime has brutalised its own people, molested its neighbours, funded international terrorism, kidnapped British nationals, and attempted to develop a nuclear weapon. We have tried diplomatic means to stop this behaviour, Iran’s leaders have rejected diplomacy. I still speak to contacts in the region whose countries are threatened daily by Iran’s brutal leaders. This is why the US and Israel have initiated military action. We must stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies.
