1/ The long term heart risks of C-19 💔 A massive new study in the European Heart Journal confirms what many feared: SARS-CoV-2 is not just a respiratory virus. It’s a long-term cardiovascular threat. The risk of major heart events remains elevated for years after infection.

🇺🇸 Comme en France, creux de circulation virale du #Covid19 dans les eaux usées pendant l'automne/hiver aux États-Unis. Et comme en France, la vague de fin d'été y a été plus forte que celle de fin d'hiver. 👇

6 years ago today I went on my last run (pic left) — today I’m 36 and I’ve spent my entire 30’s with #LongCovid struggling to walk up and down the block, or work more than 1-2 hours a day. Heres 4 things I never thought I’d lose at this age:

Almost 6 years ago I caught COVID. I have spent the last half of my twenties bedbound. I need a wheelchair for occasional Dr appointments. My doctors have told me my quality of life is similar to that of an end stage cancer patient. We need treatments. #LongCovidAwarenessDay

New from @latimes: “Yet new COVID infections are producing new #LongCovid patients. People who were healthy and active just a few months ago are still arriving at USC’s clinic with cardiovascular and cognitive problems that have upended their lives.”

Dr. Zian Tseng has led UCSF’s post-mortem Sudden Cardiac Death study for over a decade. One recent autopsy assessment of a SCD victim revealed multiple positive tissue samples for SCV2 in the brain, lungs, and heart. “An asymptomatic person like this would not have come to seek care, and we’d not have had the ability to study such a person. This may be the type of person that later on develops Long Covid.” The team is also comparing data on SCD victims pre-and post-2020; the most common infections detected in CNS tissue pre-2020 included EBV & HIV-1.

Every COVID infection adds risk, not protection. The more times someone is infected, the higher their risk of developing Long COVID. Reducing infections is one of the most important ways to protect long-term health. The Five Pillars of Protection help lower risk by layering prevention strategies: clean indoor air through ventilation and filtration, high-quality masks, testing, vaccination, and staying home when sick. When these protections are used together, they help reduce transmission and protect both individuals and communities. #LongCOVID #COVIDPrevention #CleanAir #Ventilation #MaskUp #InfectionPrevention #PublicHealth #COVIDSafety #COVID19
