A Hereford bull will breed 3 cows for every 2 cows an Angus bull breeds at least in my part of the world

In the west, this is mainly for fire control.
Dry grass catches a spark and all that wiring gets ruined at best,
I know an outfit that gets paid to graze their sheep around solar fields.

FWIW, we’ve been using Elektrochoke solar fence chargers the last few years, they’re badass.
Used to use all plug in Gallagher chargers, these kick their ass.
Simple, tough, throws a giant spark.

@CBKimbrell My frustration is the capital gains taxes in the state that I farm. It seems like most people who gained land through inheritance would rather pass it on (which is fine). Because when they sell property that hasn’t had the basis updated in decades they lose 1/2 the value in tax

Just for fun I priced a new JD 8R410.
$610k with warranty.
Then, again for fun, I priced a new hold over AGCO Massey 8737.
$364k with warranty. Yes, it’s a series older and a little smaller… but will do the same job.

Clean equipment is happy equipment.
I’m team leaf blower and grease gun at the end of the night. Nothing wrong with morning time, but I prefer not to wear that dust in the cab all day.
Plus inspecting the machine at night gives you the chance to be first in line at the parts counter if you find something is broken. Beats the hell out of wasting half the morning backtracking for parts.

Local Rancher was killed over the weekend. Had a wintering ranch in low canyon country and it sounds like he was hauling some hay down to it and drove off a rock rim....
Bad deal, his son died 4 years ago this month. 7-800 cow spread that'll get pieced off, I'm sure.

When and how to do tell your dad that still wants to just run a combine that he’s getting to old. Old man dumped about 200 bushels of cert alfalfa on the ground today ….
