@amandatoryfigs @MissSassbox I hope your appointment goes well and they have some solutions! My current band-aid fix is just to take a Benedryl or OTC sleep aid every other night or so to help me stay asleep despite the sweats and chills.
English

@EmilyFornof @MissSassbox Ugh, I’m supposed to have an appointment with my doctor soon to see what can be done about it, it’s miserable. Like, the sweats and chills feel like the flu but more severe. It’s fucking terrible. So sorry you’re going through it too 🫂
English

@amandatoryfigs @MissSassbox I get this too! Including during my PMS week, it's awful.
English

@MissSassbox In addition to the horrific cramps everyone is describing below, I get night sweats. Imagine feeling like you have the flu where you’re burning up and sweating but the instant you fling the covers off you’re freezing and shivering, nauseous & vomiting, unable to sleep for days

@williamslauram The Ace Hardware on Willy St in Madison is the absolute best. The staff are top notch, they have most everything and if they don't, they go above and beyond to get it for you. Ace is one of my favorite places to go!

@hyperhouse @clhubes @brglicker I grew up in STL (where the zoo and museums are free) and went to college in VA and would go up to DC sometimes. I was shocked when I first went to a museum in Boston and they wanted something like $30 for a one-day museum ticket (around 2007).
English

@clhubes @brglicker I’m in St. Louis so sometimes I just take my daily walk at our free zoo or stop by because I want to eat a dole whip while looking at elephants or dippin dots with the primates.

@svershbow @TheAtlantic There are so many excellent books in the world, it's ok to put one down that isn't working for you (maybe it will at another time). I try to read at least 10% before I make a decision, and will stick with books strongly recommended by reader friends with similar taste.
English

For @TheAtlantic: should you finish a book you hate? Do you read through to the end no matter what? Give up after 100 pages? Is there a "right" answer?

@chrysalis_a @MiddiMidori I swear I say this at least once a day!

@nfarabee @lydiakauppi I've also gotten 2 couches for under $1000 by waiting for big weekend sales (Memorial Day often has good ones!) from big department stores. First one from Macy's was great, second one from a local chain pills a lot but we have two dogs, so it was bound to happen! :)
English

@lydiakauppi We did a sale weekend (I think Presidents’ Day?) at Macys, cut down the price to affordable-ish and good quality. Also customizable, picked the piece (it’s a sectional) and fabric.

@moorehn Any suggestions for a good spot for quick, delicious vegetarian recipes? I've struggled with a lot of the above suggestions b/c they tend to be very meat-focused. NYT may be bland but they have lots of veg mains! Would love not to rely on them.
English

I've said this before but it's worth repeating: NYT Cooking is the worst possible place you can get recipes. Their recipes are frequently imbalanced and fail utterly in flavor.
Use Bon Appétit, use Ina Garten, use Martha Stewart, use Cook's Illustrated and America's Test Kitchen and Milk Street. Or use individual chefs like Molly Baz.

@JesseLKercheval @weischoice @coletommasulo I was shocked when we had to offload my dad's library - not even our local public library wanted most of the books, for free!
English

@weischoice @coletommasulo Books--if you inherit a good sized library, you are in for a world of grief.

In the “balance of nature” calculations that inform intuitions about conservation, it’s assumed that herds of grazing animals always subtract from the ledger, that their numbers need to be controlled to prevent #overgrazing and degradation of the environment. #Rangelands

We've discovered at @fp21org that it can be challenging for policymakers to find high-quality academic research. That's why Thomas Scherer (@LtTLS) and coauthors created this excellent guide to seeking academic research like an expert.🧵
