@acherry333 I agree with this and also said that agenda setting theory is still relevant. I’ve also experienced it on my own social media, such as TikTok where my whole for you page is stuff that I would be interested in, because it filters the page to match what I interact with.

I think that agenda setting theory and gatekeeping are both still relevant. In my own social media, I see that influencers use their platforms to adjust what we see, and use this to their advantage to promote their own brand. #UTcommtheory

@utmeganmariucci I also think this theory was interesting to learn about! It really makes you stop and think about why someone acts the way they do.

Out of all the theories we learned about in this class, I think my favorite one to learn about was Media Ecology Theory. It was really interesting to learn how media affects everyone so differently, and the many reasons we all use media. #UTcommtheory

@aallanutrocket1 I also chose amazon, as they have increased their sales so much over the years. I also thought this was weird at first and that no one would really buy much online. Personally now I get almost everything on amazon and it is at my front door in 2 days.

Amazon. In 2005 Amazon offered 2 free day shipping. At the time in high school I thought this was silly because I loved going to the mall, now I understand and love it #utcommtheory

Amazon’s revenue has nearly doubled since 2020, and the biggest factor of that is digital marketing. So many people have amazon storefronts now, and all of this just gets amazon more attention #UTcommtheory

@aaliyahpls I love the Kardashians and definitely would have used them as an example if I didn’t see you did first hahah. But yes they definitely have mastered the art of using their platform to market off of themselves, because they started off being famous for almost no real reason.

I have a parasocial relationship with the Kardashian family. The devil works hard but Kris Jenner works harder when it comes to marketing and profiting off of her daughters. I've learned so much about them both willingly and unwillingly. #UTcommtheory

I would have a parasocial relationship with Kiara from Outer Banks. I feel like she just has a very fun and outgoing personality and we would get along very well. I also want to live by the ocean so I am very jealous of the life they live. #UTcommtheory

@tabuabsicomm I always do this. A lot of times I end up just putting it on my private story anyways, and have barely posted on my public story ever since I started second guessing myself on this.

Oftentimes I post whatever I feel like, not thinking that what is appropriate for my friends, might not be appropriate for my boss who follows me on social media. It’s important to remember that the internet is permanent. #UTcommtheory

Technology comm helped get advice quickly to slow spread of COVID-19; like increase hand washing, staying home, social distancing, wearing masks in public. Negative impact: misinformed people about health advice such inhaling disinfectant, washing food with bleach.#UTcommtheory

Current comm technology positively impacted our experience of covid-19 by allowing us to do many things from home now. Lots of things such as work and school can all be done online now, making it more flexible for people. #UTcommtheory

I can describe a situation where I witnessed assimilation in action. During a team meeting at work, a co-worker named Sharon noticeably alters her communication style and behavior to match the dominant cultural norms of our company #UTcommtheory

I have seen assertive accommodation happen in many situations, one being at work. All of our abilities and skills are put to use which allows us to work better as a team, and teaches others skills that they might not have. #UTcommtheory

In the integration face theory, it means to apologize for past behavior and have high concern for both self face and other face. This gif of taylor swift saying sorry fits that theory. #UTcommtheory

An organization that needs a culture change is UT parking. I believe that since we pay so much in tuition already, we should not have to pay this much for a pass. Also, a $55 ticket is excessive considering we pay only a little double that for each semester’s pass. #UTcommtheory

@NashEssenc6736 I also do this same exact thing! I try to manage my time and plan out specific hours of the day to do work/homework, but for some reason I work better under pressure.

A situation that causes me cognitive dissonance is when I know I have deadlines to meet. No matter what, I always end up completing my work at the last minute. #UTcommtheory

@gachaponzu I agree completely with you on this. I have also had many leadership positions and I always run any type of decisions this because I know this is how I work best, and everyone likes their voices and opinions to be heard.

An example of pathos is when my family had a fundraiser where we sold shirts and raised money for my aunt who was battling breast cancer. This was an emotional proof, because one of our loved ones was going through something extremely tough. #UTcommtheory
