Like many others, I've been weighing up losing wonderful connections I have here with the fact that this place is becoming increasingly unethical and not something I want to support. I've made a Bluesky account and hope to connect with many of you there 💙 bsky.app/profile/dremma…

The Government's Impact Assessment also affirms this: "Having a disability or mental disorder does not prevent a person from being regarded as terminally ill if they meet the definition of terminally ill in Clause 2.”
Rajiv Shah@RajivShah90

In the first few seconds of the Bill @LordCFalconer says an outright untruth "The Bill makes it explicit...that it's got to be a physical illness only, that a mental illness will not qualify" That's false. Nowhere in the Bill does it say explicitly it has to be physical Nor does the Bill say a mental illness will not qualify. The provision about mental illness explicitly says that it has no legal effect and that any illness which meets the two limbs of the terminal illness definition will qualify [even if it is mental] Receipts below

1/ Yesterday in Parliament, we from bereaved families, lawyers, clinicians, and people in recovery about how the #AssistedDyingBill could endanger people with eating disorders. Huge thanks to all the MPs, peers, and stakeholders who joined us. Here’s what we heard 🧵👇

Psychiatrist @AllanOHouse was permitted, like me, to speak to the AD committee - but only after it first tried to ban @rcpsych from testifying. Pls read his letter. How is the committee remotely serious about protecting the vulnerable if it ignores the doctors who treat them?

🚨COVID-19 may Enduringly Impact Cognitive Performance and Brain Haemodynamics in Undergraduate Students Not a cold. Not no big deal. Not *just* a threat to the “vulnerable.” This is brain damage.

Whatever your own views are on the subject, its deeply troubling that the Assisted Dying Committee is not interested in listening to clinical experts offering balanced and informed advice. So an undemocratic and badly informed process in my view. 🤷‍♂️ bgs.org.uk/policy-and-med…

As psychiatrists, we’re at the frontline of assessing mental state, capacity, and potential coercion in complex assisted dying cases. Our expertise is going to matter for safeguarding vulnerable people. Why exclude the Royal College of Psychiatrists from these vital discussions?
Rajiv Shah@RajivShah90

The Terminally Ill Adults Bill Committee has just voted 14 to 8 against calling oral evidence from the Royal College of Psychiatrists I have no words
