@mic69449413 @hollieteach Most jobs requiring similar qualifications as teachers have much better maternity pay packages. Civil servants for example get full pay for 6 months.

@hollieteach I'm not sure I understand the maternity pay reasoning. Many jobs are going with the statuary maternity pay and staff are returning to work so why is it different for teachers? I'm not critical I just don't understand

Teachers are burning out and leaving, and I had never realised before being pregnant that maternity pay is a big reason. A profession mostly made up of women, but we get 4 weeks full pay and then... barely anything. No wonder so many are walking away, especially 30-39 year olds.

Is there anything harder in the primary maths curriculum than trying to convince children that a rectangle does not have 4 lines of symmetry?

@chochlo @CantabKitty FWIW, my watch doesn't bother me at all when I sleep. However, charging it is tricky to fit into the day.

@EmmaCookeBooks @CantabKitty It does, but it would be less comfortable to wear overnight, and I’m not a fan of watches at the best of times. I gather the ring also interprets the quality of your sleep better and uses AI to help you figure out how to improve things.

I’m torn between the Oura ring (great battery, accuracy, steps, sleep, stress and “readiness”, more comfortable (for me, I think)) and an Apple Watch (general fitness, ECG, notifications, no subscription). If you see this and have either, please tell me why!

@CantabKitty I’ve worked out now that the reason I can’t decide is because I want them both for different things - the watch would be a really useful day time thing (with cellular? Not sure on that either) while the ring would be far better for sleep tracking and general wellbeing.

Apart from the fun stuff at work, I don’t celebrate Christmas. But as a Muslim, I believe that: ‘A person is either your brother in faith or your equal in humanity.’ So Christmas matters to me because it’s celebrated by you ❤️. Merry Christmas and peace be unto you.

@CantabKitty @chochlo Worse than that. The school contacted the police and the police came to our house and took ex for questioning for taking photos of minors.

@chochlo @CantabKitty Ok so fun story: me and my ex witnessed school kids using racist slurs at and throwing things at a person on the bus. Ex took photo and emailed it to the school. Guess how the school responded?

@CantabKitty Tell that to all the kids on public transport round here - there’s too many schools for me to know all the uniforms but someday I’m going to call up a school and report them, and maybe they’ll get the talk then, better late than never.

I'm a bit uneasy with the "Muslims aren't offended by Christmas, my Muslim friends have Christmas trees up" messages. Muslims shouldn't have to join in with the celebrations just to make you feel better about them. It's ok for Muslims to not partake at all.

@MBDscience I wonder whether the responses vary depending on location. As a non-Londoner a train being 4 minutes late would not even count as late.

Scenario: A person commutes via a train service that runs every 4-6 minutes. On one occasion they arrive at the station to find it's not arriving for 10 minutes. They get on this train, but arrive at work 3 minutes late. Who is at fault for the tardiness?

@KKNTeachLearn Me! I've swapped now so I dislike weekends and holidays and look forward most to Mondays. What changed it for me was having a baby, going part time (3 days), and only teaching A level.

@MathsImpact The names of the cities in Johto also have a theme. From Gen 3 onwards though they're a bit more random.

Chatting to my boys today, I have only just realised that in Pokémon you start in Pallet town, and then visit 8 cities named after colours.
