There is an IV fluids shortage (0.9% MS & LR) due to hurricane Helene. Because of the shortage everyone should stop ordering routine maintenance fluids for the next 2-4 weeks. Because of good medical practice everyone should stop ordering routine maintenance fluids forever.

@catxkuhlman I do not! But I feel like the value I could provide at my institution IV wise is if I was trained in ultrasound IVs! Feels like everyone is a hard stick here and that’s what they always need.

@AndreaSikora I do think another factor is that, especially for large programs, preceptors can only come up with so many ideas for research and not all are worth publishing. Coming up with ~10 publishable ideas every year for 1 program feels impossible. Plus there’s thousands of programs.

~90% of pharmacy residency projects do not go onto publication This indicates that we have a process that is not teaching high quality scientific / scholarship methods OR a process that is not in alignment with the true goal (e.g., an understanding of the quality improvement process).
