There is no one “perfect” coaching style. Coaches should not be cardboard cut-outs, they should be skilled communicators who adapt to context and social factors. Every athlete doesn’t need a hug or rousing speech. Similarly, pressure tactics shouldn’t be viewed as “the answer.”

Training great athletes does not automatically make you a great coach. Too many undervalue working with novices, youth and those that are challenged in a myriad of other ways. True experience comes from exposure that is multifaceted.
