At the end of my career, I will not care at all what my h-index is or how many papers I published. However, I will care tremendously whether I was a good mentor and had a positive impact on the lives of others. I want to live those values every day from now until then.

Today's micrograph: A piece of #carbon fabric provided by Ulrike. Each fibre is approximately 10 um in diameter. It was my first time looking at this type of material under the #SEM. Could it pass for #art? I think it almost looks like a picture one could buy from IKEA. 😂

I'm writing a book! 📙 It will explore how #microbes can help us solve the #ClimateCrisis - an optimistic take on solutions for a lay audience. Aiming for a spring 2024 release with @RachelField13 as my fantastic editor!

Today's Micrograph: During fixation with glutaraldehyde, acidification can occur which could cause structural alterations. Therefore, the pH of a culture should match the pH of fixation. Here we see S. epidermidis. Fun #SEM times with @AnkitaChauhan00 in the @GeomicroTueb lab.

Today's Micrograph: The amount of cells can be quite low in comparison to minerals, especially from environmental samples. There is always a sense of triumph when small "biofilms" are found hidden within microenvironments around minerals. Fun #SEM times in @GeomicroTueb lab!

ICNARC have updated their analysis of COVID patients in critical care in England, Wales and NI. They now show boosted patients as well. They are shown in green. Yes, I've put them on the chart. You have to squint.
