@TLRailUK Thank you! There's now a problem with the doors, but at least we know the train is there :) Thanks for the help!

@TLRailUK Thanks Kieran, sorry for the delay! Unfortunately by the time it showed as on time I'd taken a different route, but these things happen - thanks anyway!

@TLRailUK why is the 06.31 from ELS to Sutton delayed? As in, should I give up and find another route or will it resolve?

@EmmaKEdDev Hi Emma. Buses depart from Blackfriars Station (Stop B) on Queen Victoria Street. If you speak to station staff they will be able to point you in the right direction as well. ^Will C

@TLRailUK Hi, I'm reading about a replacement bus service from Blackfriars to Elstree and Borehamwood at 01.36am - do you know anything about where it will depart from? No info on National Rail website.

🚦 Services are still experiencing delays this evening due to a fault with the signalling system between Luton and Bedford. 📱 Please make sure to check your journey at nationalrail.co.uk or on the Thameslink app. ⏰ We'd still recommend you allow an extra 10 minutes to account for delays.

@TLRailUK the boarding process when TL trains are using the EMR platforms is so poor. Holding everyone in a pen until 2 minutes before the train leaves then leaving on time encourages people to shove - either let people board properly, let them board earlier or hold the train.

Approx 29k resident doctors applied for 9k training posts this year. They're not "choosing" to forgo specialist training, @gmcuk, they're being forced out of it by the decision to artificially suppress numbers of doctor training posts, even though we're so short of consultants.
GMC@gmcuk

We're pleased to share the second in our annual series of #StateOfMed reports – Workforce. This focuses on the changing shape of the medical workforce across the UK. This year’s report shows that the medical register continues to grow, as does the diversity of the doctors on it. Doctors’ career paths are also changing, with more doctors than ever before choosing locally employed (LE) roles, working outside of formal postgraduate training pathways and with local contracts. In England and Wales, where data is currently available to us, the number of LE doctors grew by 75% between 2019 and 2023 – this makes this the fastest growing cohort on the register. As we look to the next decade, it’s critical that all doctors have the infrastructure, support and resources they need to achieve their ambitions. That’s in the interests of doctors, as well as the interests of a growing and ageing population. Discover more insights and key statistics by reading the report on our website gmc-uk.org/-/media/docume…

@TLRailUK As the North Terminal is still operating, have @Gatwick_Airport clarified how people are expected to get there not using buses, trains or local roads?

⛔Thameslink, Southern and Gatwick Express trains can still run through the area, but will NOT be stopping at Gatwick Airport 🚌Local buses are also affected and unable to run to Gatwick Airport, so we would advise to avoid using this route 🚧We've also been advised of local road closures too, so if you are driving to the airport please be aware of this when planning your journey

In the last year alone, 400,000 hectares of agricultural land have been taken out of use for farming, as the wealthiest purchase land. Doing so allows them to avoid IHT. /9

So, I've just spent a bit of time looking into the debate on IHT and farming. I... got a shock. First, a note: I have a friend who runs a family farm. In his view, the whole thing is a something and nothing. 🧵

To give a sense of comparison? Jeremy Clarkson purchased a whopping 400 hectares (20 times the average farm size) back in 2008. So whatever you do, don't think he's the average farmer; he really isn't. /7

Labour's family farm tax problem should be really easy to fix, and they could probably even do it in a revenue neutral way - eg instead of 20% above £1m go to 30% above £5 million. They've got it wrong, and if you're going to have to do a U-turn then best to get on with it.

To all conference attendees everywhere, please never decline a mic. The loudness of a voice is not the only thing that makes it intelligible and so some of us cannot hear you regardless of how well you project. This is my 11th year of tweeting this plea. #POD24

In the late 1970s, working (in her words) in 'stealth mode' as a woman, Lynn developed very large scale integration (VLSI) of computer components, a key breakthrough in computer science, which enabled the modern computer and ultimately put smartphones in everyone's pocket.

It's timely to highlight the life & work of computer scientist Lynn Conway. In the late 1960s, she transitioned from male to female and was sacked by IBM as a result. For some years, she went underground and, for the rest of her career, worked as a woman - herstory unknown.

@ProfDaveAndress They've turned off comments, presumably because comment is only free for some of us (and I imagine Sonia is absolutely not doing it for free either). Even if you don't know the sector, a simple Google would reveal much of that article to be a lie.
