Every year, I run the Care Leavers’ Christmas Collection to bring a little joy to young people in care. Last year, thanks to incredible support, we delivered 400 gift bags across the South of England. This year, we’re aiming even higher—bigger, brighter, and better than ever! We start collecting in October.

Vaccines help protect against many serious and potentially deadly diseases. They are given at certain times for the best protection, but if your child missed a vaccine, get in touch with your GP. Information about what vaccines your child has had can be found in their red book.

If we seek significant, sustainable change in health and care outcomes, we need to change the underlying systems (& leadership thinking) that generate those outcomes. We need to become as skilled in system change practice as we are in project & programme management & quality improvement. Here's a couple of great resources: 1) A definition of systems change by @AnnasQuestions @DarcyRiddell & @laurachaosmilk, via Joss Colchester: systemschangeeducation.com/portfolio-item… 2) "Highlights from the literature on changing social systems": part of a work in progress on leadership for large scale change from @AspenInstitute & the Higher Ambition Leadership Alliance. Aimed at leaders & practitioners, it recommends multiple resources for systems change practice: static1.squarespace.com/static/67c1309…. "Systems change" doesn't mean that every change initiative needs to become massive, all embracing & overwhelming. It means building in the space to challenge our own thinking & ways of operating & starting with a bigger picture of how we go about change & what might be possible.

How, as leaders, do we motivate people to do their most productive work? New research says that too often we make assumptions linked to "agency theory": that people need strong managerial control, targets, monitoring & regulation to work effectively. The researchers say that assumptions based on "self-determination theory - creating the conditions so people are intrinsically motivated to do their best work (autonomy, competence, and relatedness) - get significantly better results.
