@CatharineHoey It’s a nightmare in NI. You can’t run the things in buildings that fall under 5C. Vendors explicitly tell you this. Old housing stock, no utility rooms. Many people use them in garages. Who can afford to heat garages?

Just over a year ago I opposed the Statutory Instrument which banned conventional tumble dryers in Northern Ireland because of NI being left under EU rules. Not much interest in GB then but now Government imposing on the whole of the U.K. hansard.parliament.uk/lords/2025-03-…

@FlowerdewBob I personally think hanging out washing is a delightful thing to see. I have no option but to use a tumble dryer in Winter but when Spring comes my washing dances outside.

@FlowerdewBob You have to factor in the strong feeling that people who hang out their washing bring down the tone of the neighbourhood.

‘Prominent anti-transgender activist..his anti-transgender activism’ BBC Radio News on @Glinner Grim from the BBC - @lizo_mzimba, as ents correspondent, swims in a world of affirmation. No one on the desk would have been confident enough to correct him (because he’s a corr, and because the affirmation culture of the BBC means they won’t want to speak up) and he probably would have argued if they tried to. Mzimba could have said ‘women and LGB rights campaigner’, he could have said gender critical campaigner, or sex based rights campaigner. Instead he saw it through a trans framing, and a trans lens, and he expressed a defamatory opinion.

Keir Starmer makes clear he has no intention of standing aside telling @BBCr4today: “I was elected in July 24 on a manifesto of change. “It was a five-year term that I won with a landslide victory, and I'll be judged at the end of that period, at the next election, by whether I've delivered on what I promised”

South Korea 🇰🇷 A motorway that stretches for 20 miles has a huge solar panel strip down the middle with a cycle path underneath. This is more logical than plastering solar panels on thousands of acres of prime farmland.

@Fox_Claire @Ella_M_Whelan Part of the EU surrender
Jim Allister@JimAllister

Welcome to the Alice and Wonderland World of Starmer’s EU Reset | Parliament Politics Magazine parliamentnews.co.uk/welcome-to-the… We are seeing the EU Reset, NI Trojan Horse Dynamic, played out in advance of the formal reset with new legislation banning conventional tumble dryers in GB currently before Parliament (as we have previously with vehicle type approval). This follows the EU banning conventional tumble dryers in NI last year. Since 1 July we have been forced to buy heat pump tumble dryers which are more expensive to purchase and can only operate at ambient temperatures, requiring people who locate their tumble dryers in the garage or outhouse to heat it. Jim Allister calls out the Government attempt to use the failure to provide Brexit in Northern Ireland as an excuse to justify sabotaging Brexit in GB, in the article above, stating: ‘I am not prepared to sit back and allow the Government the opportunity of using the failure to provide Brexit for Northern Ireland to justify sabotaging Brexit in Great Britain. It is bad enough that the biggest democratic vote in the history of our country should have been sabotaged in one part of the UK, let alone that it should now be sabotaged in the rest of the UK.’ Jim has tabled a motion to annul the attempt to export the disenfranchisement of Northern Ireland to Great Britain. He concludes: ‘the only way forward is for the people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to come together and make it clear to the EU that we are no longer prepared to be subject to their policy of divide and rule and that the whole United Kingdom must be afforded Brexit.’ Please encourage MPs to sign ahead of prorogation. ‘That an humble Address be presented to His Majesty, praying that the Ecodesign for Energy-Related Products and Energy Information (Household Tumble Dryers) Regulations 2026 (SI, 2026, No. 318), dated 19 March 2026, a copy of which was laid before this House on 19 March 2026, be annulled.’ edm.parliament.uk/early-day-moti…

Love this article by @Ella_M_Whelan in defense of tumble dryers as a key ally of women's rights & an essential for Mums. The green zealot's promotion of heat-pump version is as always tone-deaf to the needs of ordinary people

More important utility room item than you think, for sporty households. But I doubt Miliband, or his kids, have ever played lots of sport through the weekend and mid week. I doubt many of the Greens understand how important it is to turn around sport kit quick - not exactly “A” or 1st team people are they, or seconds for that matter. Milliband would be a disaster @Ed_Miliband

Based on what happened in Iraq, Tony Blair should be nowhere near the front of political discourse. But he still is. The orchestrator of so many problems continues to offer ‘solutions’ that will create even more problems. Tony Blair is not the solution. He’s part of the problem.

Committee for Academic Freedom
A High Court judge has floated the idea that one way for a university to “manage” the risk of a gender-critical lecture would be for administrators to “read it in advance”. The difficulty is what this might look like in practice. Who would carry out the review? Legal counsel? An EDI officer? The chair of the LGBTQ+ Staff Network? On what basis would changes be requested: tone, language, framing — or simply a sense of distaste? Would passages deemed likely to generate upset need to be reformulated, or accompanied by trigger warnings? And what would any of this mean for how the academic delivering such a lecture is regarded by colleagues and students? afcomm.org.uk/2026/05/01/sus…

On the delayed @ScotRail from Ayr to Girvan. Why’s it delayed? Because staff noticed a mum with three kids two massive suitcases on the wrong platform at departure time; suitcases and buggy carried over the bridge, train held for a few moments. Everyone happy. Well done guys.

A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.
Harry Eccles@Heccles94

The Greens will raise the minimum wage to £15 for all workers 💪

📣🚨GRAHAM LINEHAN ACQUITTED OF CRIMINAL DAMAGE “The decision of the Court to throw out this case , is very welcome – but this case should never have got to court. There has been a troubling pattern of police forces around the country to ‘believe’ trans-rights activists, time and time again, even when there has been overwhelming evidence that complaints have been made against gender critical campaigners, in bad faith. The police have failed in their duty to properly and fairly investigate – preferring instead to support one side over the other in a debate. All this has done is erode the faith the public should be able to have in the police. We are sick of two tier policing and I hope with today’s verdict it will end. I have suffered greatly in my fight to protect women and children from what I believe to be a dangerous ideology. But I am proud that I have never given in and I will not do. I have been lifted through support from friends and strangers, from women’s rights groups to London cabbies who have taken the time to stop and shake my hand. I am very grateful to my legal team; Daniel Berke and Sarah Vine KC and to the team at the Free Speech Union”.
