@diehardmetsnyc @Musicalmindz @Gretcie @hausfath @WeatherProf This one? "the recent, dramatic decline in Kilimanjaro’s ice cap is particularly remarkable given its persistence through many previous shifts in climate, including a severe 300-year-long drought that impacted human populations living in the area about 4,000 years ago." 🤣🤡

With all the July model runs now in, it is very likely that 2026 will see the largest El Niño event since records began in the late 1800s – and potentially by a truly mind-blowing margin. The median estimate is now 3.6C, roughly 0.8C hotter than the prior record (2.75C).

@diehardmetsnyc @Musicalmindz @Gretcie @hausfath @WeatherProf So far in this thread alone you've fabricated 2 separate straw-man attacks that I can see: 1: "This has never happened before." - nobody said that 2: "There's no need to run around and yell about the apocalypse" - I agree, and nobody here called it an apocalypse except you

@Edessagospels @gergovie77 @ZacksJerryRig What weather am I looking at? I'm just responding to your random factoids you keep throwing out. And isn't you pointing out the 1911 UK heat wave an example of weather since it was an isolated incident?

@Edessagospels @gergovie77 @ZacksJerryRig Is that your proposition? That we are currently experiencing a D-O event? Do you have anything to support that? And where were the tree lines during the last event? There doesn't appear to be any continuity to your logic and you're just throwing out random pieces of information

@circlethywagons @histoireclimat Chart changes quite a bit once you realize that only a narrow band across the bottom would be the temp range that human civilization is adapted to survive in... Or another way to put it, the vast majority of that graph is temp ranges that would utterly end human civilization...

@Edessagospels @gergovie77 @ZacksJerryRig Yep, that is because those temp increases occurred naturally over thousands (or more) years. This is occurring in a fraction of the time so nature hasn't had time to adapt. Its not just the change that matters, its the rate of change.

@Edessagospels @gergovie77 @ZacksJerryRig You: "it was up to 6 degrees warmer than now in higher latitudes, just 8,000 years ago." Me: Post a link showing that isn't true and it is now hotter than 8,000 years ago You: "warming is mainly at higher latitudes, not in the tropics" The tropics are passing record heat now..

@Triode_in_situ @ZacksJerryRig I'll try for an analogy you might understand. If I installed a smart thermostat 2 years ago in a hundred year old house and i'm noticing the temp going steadily up faster and faster since I installed it, does it really matter what happened 90 years ago?

To say El Niño is at record intensity for July is really an understatement. It’s a full .6°C/ 1.1°F ahead of the old record in 2015 in the main ENSO 3.4 region. That’s immense… It’s 1.95°C above the 1990-2020 average already. So just a hair below “Super” (+2C) already… 🧵 1/

@Triode_in_situ @ZacksJerryRig "natural variability" See all those overlapping lines in the middle. That would be an example of natural variability within a range. Now see the red line thats waaaay out of the norm. Thats abnormal.

@ZacksJerryRig Ever hear the story about the boy who cried wolf!? Weather alarmists have zero credibility especially when they come across natural variability for the first time.

@grunthos14 @amelia_tweetz I'm all for giving credit where it's due, but can you point to which policy or legislation that POTUS implemented/supported that shows he actually had anything to do with this?

How much does normalcy bias affect media reporting? Here is a chart of global sea-surface temperatures (SSTs) from 1982 to 2026 with the years 2023, 2024 and 2025 omitted. As of June 27th, global SSTs have set 26 daily record highs in a row. Media? Is there anybody out there?

@EVO____________ @EliotJacobson "only a 1.6°C difference" I seem to recall a lot of hub-bub about trying to keep global temp increases below 1.5c... Glad 1.6c on this scale doesn't merit any concern for you.

@KristofSay59189 @EliotJacobson His question is literally "How much does normalcy bias affect media reporting?" E.g. since it "keep on rising" as you stated, people see many lines with a few at the top and don't realize how much all of the rise is just in the last several years You literally proved his point

@EliotJacobson Why does a professor erase 2023 and 2024 data? This is the correct data. You show the same graph without 2023 and 2024 to make the gap look extreme. The oceans keep on rising but your graph is not representative

@swellingtonshow @alifarhat79 What finer points? Nothing has been released and they aren't even actually signing anything until Friday. Of which the only point is an extended ceasefire and opening the strait. Please share these "finer points" you are talking about. We'd all love to hear them!

@alifarhat79 Propaganda! The finer points of the deal show how Trump outsmarted them. They came crawling back begging for help and he said “though you are nothing more than dogs to me, I will help” now that’s my America!
