Phenomenon that’s important to understand: Once someone comes to believe it’s over, they set about trying to make that true so they won’t feel embarrassed about being wrong/powerless/etc. Destructive pathology b/c setbacks they’re reacting to are usually temporary or non-fatal.

Over 60% of grades at Harvard were A’s last year, up from 25% in 2006 Harvard wants to set it back to the way it was in 2011. Students are protesting, with 94% disapproving of the proposal, saying it would “increase stress, fuel competition and discourage academic exploration”
