Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation,Mr. Julius Korir, CBS @JKorir_K today chaired the wrap-up meeting for the implementation support mission of projects
funded by Agence Française de Développement (AFD)@AFD_France .
He was accompanied by WaterSecretary Eng, Samuel Alima @EngSaoalima and CEOs of the implementing Agencies of the State Department for Water and Sanitation.
he projects under review included the Northern Collector Water Project, Nairobi Water and Sanitation Project, Mwache Downstream Project, and the Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Project (LVWATSAN)—all delivering significant impact in improving water and sanitation services across the country.
Participating agencies included the Athi Water Works Development Agency @AthiWaterWorks, Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency @lvswwda and Coast Water Works Development Agency @cwwda, underscoring a coordinated sector-wide approach in project implementation.
Notably, the Northern Collector is now supplying over 140,000 cubic metres of water daily to Nairobi and the metropolitan area, greatly enhancing water availability. Under LVWATSAN, the city of Kisumu has seen major improvements in water supply and sewerage services, with the Non-Revenue Water component supporting the Kisumu Water and Sanitation Company to reduce losses from 39% to 28%.
PS @JKorir_K called on AFD @AFD_France to consider expanding future investments to other growing urban centres including Eldoret and Nakuru, while noting that pipeline projects such as the Mombasa Sanitation Project are currently under development.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership between the Government and @AFD_France in advancing sustainable water and sanitation solutions and improving service delivery across Kenya.

Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir, CBS,@JKorir_K this afternoon chaired the inaugural Water and Sanitation Sub-Committee meeting under the State–County Implementation Committee established through the cooperation pact between the National Government and the Nairobi City County Government.
The Sub-Committee brings together key stakeholders including the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Athi Water Works Development Agency, Water Resources Authority, Nema Kenya, Nairobi Rivers , and the Nairobi Water Company.
The meeting focused on the prioritization of immediate, medium, and long-term projects under the agreement, all geared towards improving water supply and sanitation services across Nairobi.
This coordinated approach underscores the commitment to integrated planning, efficient service delivery, and sustainable urban development in the capital city.

Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir, CBS @JKorir_K today held a consultative meeting with the Athi Water Works Development Agency technical team and the project proponent for the proposed Maragua 4 Dam.
The project is a key strategic investment aimed at enhancing water supply, with a capacity to deliver an additional 140,000 cubic meters of water per day to the Nairobi Metropolitan area, including Murang'a County and Kiambu County.
The meeting focused on advancing the project under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework, as the Government continues to onboard alternative financing mechanisms to accelerate infrastructure development in the water sector.
This initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to sustainable water supply, urban resilience, and long-term water security for the growing population.

𝗙𝗔𝗦𝗧-𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗞-𝗪𝗔𝗦𝗛 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗠 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡
The wrap-up meeting for the Kenya Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (K-WASH) Program Implementation Support Mission was today chaired by the Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Mr. Julius Korir, CBS @JKorir_K marking the conclusion of the mission held from 9th to 25th March 2026.
The meeting was attended by the World Bank team led by the Task Team Leader of the program Ms. Pascaline Wanjiku.
The Program aims to increase sustainable access to improved water and sanitation services, eliminate open defecation, and enhance the financial performance of water service providers, particularly in selected and refugee-hosting counties.
The meeting reviewed key mission findings and agreed on actionable next steps to address outstanding challenges, with a focus on improving disbursement levels, accelerating implementation and ensuring timely rollout of projects across the beneficiary counties.
The Ministry remains committed to strengthening partnerships and delivering impactful water and sanitation solutions that improve livelihoods and public health.

CELEBRATING THE 33RD WORLD WATER DAY IN IGEMBE NORTH, MERU COUNTY
Today, we proudly marked the 33rd World Water Day at Mwerongundu Comprehensive School in Igembe North Constituency, Meru County.
This year’s theme, “Water and Gender,” challenged us to reflect on a simple yet powerful truth: water is not only a resource; it is also a question of equality. Access to safe and reliable water is deeply connected to dignity, opportunity, and fairness especially for women and girls who are often most affected by water challenges.

Principal Secretary State Department for Water and Sanitation,Mr. Julius Korir, CBS, @JKorir_K joined by Water Secretary Eng. Samuel Alima @EngSaoalima ,today chaired a meeting with the North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency @NRVWWDA and Impact Fund Denmark to prioritize key projects for funding aimed at improving water and sanitation access in the region.
The discussions focused on the Sabor–Iten Water Supply Project, featuring a 22m high dam and 8.7 million m³ reservoir; the Iten–Tambach Sewerage Project, which will deliver modern wastewater treatment systems for both towns; and the Lodwar Town Water Supply Project, involving expansion of pipelines, borehole development, solar-powered systems, and infrastructure to meet long-term demand.
These investments are set to enhance water security, sanitation services, and climate resilience, while supporting livelihoods and sustainable development across the North Rift region.

The Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Eng. Eric Mugaa @mugaa_eric together with the Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation Mr. Julius Korir, CBS @JKorir_K today hosted the President H.E. William Samoei Ruto @WilliamsRuto
for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Solarisation and Rehabilitation of the Shitoli Water Project in Ikolomani Constituency, Kakamega County.
The project which is being implemented through Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency is designed to significantly improve the access, quality, availability, and sustainability of water services for residents of Ikolomani Constituency and parts of Shinyalu Constituency.
Once completed, it will deliver reliable clean water to communities that have long faced challenges in accessing adequate water supply.
Key components of the project include rehabilitation of the existing intake works, rehabilitation of the existing water treatment plant with a capacity of 3,500m³/day (civil and electrical works), construction of a laboratory and staff houses, supply and installation of pumps with a design capacity of 3,500m³/day complete with a control unit, construction of a new 1.5km rising main (OD 250), and development of 18.3km of distribution lines (OD 110–63mm). The project will also install a solar power plant to run the treatment facility, enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability.
Upon completion, the project will serve communities in Sigalagala, Museno, Khayega, Iguhu, Ikolomani, Musingu, Mukumu, Ilesi and Malinya, greatly improving livelihoods and supporting economic activities in the region.

The Principal Secretary, State Department for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir,@JKorir_K CBS accompanied by the Water Secretary Eng, Samuel Alima @EngSaoalima today held a consultative meeting with the leadership of the National Land Commission led by the Chief Executive Officer, Kabale Tache Arero, to discuss the finalization of the land acquisition and titling process for the Thwake Dam project.
The meeting focused on accelerating the completion of the titling process to ensure that all land acquired for the project is fully registered and owned by the Government, thereby securing the project area for long-term infrastructure development and public use.
It was agreed that the process will be placed under a Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) to fast-track the outstanding activities. The effort will be undertaken in close collaboration with the National Government Administration in Makueni County and the local office of the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning to expedite issuance of the required titles.
The engagement underscores the Government’s commitment to resolving land matters associated with strategic water infrastructure projects to safeguard investments and enhance water security for communities.
