@CheriDiNovo We don't need a wealth tax, we just need to fix legal loopholes in the tax system. Politicians don't want to do that though

And in Canada a wealth tax on those paying less tax than average Canadians would fund our heath care. The vast majority of Canadians want a wealth tax. Why don't our elected officials talk about this?
Occupy Democrats@OccupyDemocrats

BREAKING: Bernie Sanders brutally mocks billionaires over his proposed wealth tax: “Poor Elon Musk would only have $737 billion left!” Sen. Bernie Sanders just delivered one of the funniest, most savage takedowns of billionaire whining in recent memory. While pushing for higher taxes on the ultra-wealthy, Sanders mocked his opponents who claim such policies are too harsh on the poor, suffering billionaires: “My opponents claim that this legislation is punitive and confiscatory. Oh, we’re just picking on these poor billionaires. I mean, my God, how cruel can you be?” Then came the punchlines that had the room laughing: “If that bill were in effect this year, Elon Musk would pay $39 billion more in taxes. This confiscatory, terrible, drastic, radical piece of legislation would leave Musk with just $737 billion left to survive on. Now, I know you’re worried about him, but what do you think? Think he can make it on $737 billion?” Of course, Bernie couldn’t let the Amazon and Washington Post owner off the hook: “Jeff Bezos would owe about $14 billion more in taxes, but he would still have $265 billion to put a roof over his head.” The crowd loved it. And seriously, who wouldn’t? The idea that taxing the richest people in human history a little more is somehow cruel while millions of Americans struggle to afford groceries is peak billionaire propaganda. Bernie was referring to the Make Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share Act, which he and Rep. Ro Khanna introduced earlier this year. The bill would impose a 5 percent annual wealth tax on the roughly 940 Americans with a net worth of $1 billion or more. Economists say this would raise trillions over a decade to fund direct payments to working families, expanded healthcare, affordable housing, and other priorities, while leaving even the richest Americans with hundreds of billions of dollars in wealth. Bernie’s point is crystal clear: the ultra-wealthy have more money than any human being could possibly need in multiple lifetimes, yet they still cry victim the second anyone suggests they pay their fair share. The ultra-rich can absolutely afford to pay more, and pretending otherwise is getting harder and harder to take seriously. If you are on board with Bernie and his 5 percent wealth tax on billionaires, like and share this post.

@AlexBores Why don't you focus on fixing problems in NY? This is exactly why the swamp needs to be drained.

I just introduced the Anti-Insurrectionist Act in NY. It's simple: If you're a New Yorker who takes from Trump's illegal January 6th slush fund, NY will tax 100% of it.

@MCL_CA @RafeefGarbi Sure we do. AI computing is the future. If we don't jump in, other countries certainly will and we will be exporting our dollars to them. I use AI every day to be more productive - not surveillance.

@NYCMayor should we tax the customers that order the products and want fast delivery? Also, doesn't it save fuel and reduce C02 due to economies of scale? You realize Amazon will just pass the costs onto customers so you are effectively taxing New Yorkers and not Amazon! #dumb

Amazon is worth $2 trillion. But it didn't deign to pay the millions of dollars it racked up in unpaid fines as its’ trucks illegally polluted our air and forced New Yorkers to breathe in their exhaust.
We collected every dollar they owe the people of this city — and will continue to hold them accountable. In New York, corporations are held to the same standard as everyone else.
No company — no matter how large or powerful — is above the law.

@AidanSimardone Umm this is how people's lives get better - tax income, jobs, growth. Also, this will take multi years to build. This is private investment by the way...

@tboyblues Who are "they"? This is private investment...not the government..... the government doesn't build housing, private investment does. There are currently 50K. There are currently 5000-10000 unsold condos in Vancouver right now....

@capexbt What happens today is the following: 1) I borrow mine and use shares I own as collateral. 2) I pay a low interest rate on the loan, and avoid paying a much higher rate income tax. 3) I continue this forever and essential differ income tax. This needs to change!

The richest man on earth just tweeted "Bitches. Money. No Taxes. Party." - He's worth $800+ billion - He pays 0% federal income tax through legal structures - He owns the platform he posted it on - He's about to take SpaceX public at $2 trillion - He runs 6 companies simultaneously - He sleeps 6 hours a night on a factory floor - He posted this at 11pm on a Saturday like a 21 year old college kid Meanwhile you're stressed about your 9-5, your landlord raising rent by $50, and whether your ex saw your story. The man literally running the world's most valuable private company just told you the whole game in 4 words and you're going to scroll past it to argue about politics. Bitches. Money. No Taxes. Party. He's not joking. That's the actual priority list of the most successful man alive. Maybe stop overthinking and go grab life by the throat.

@capexbt Instead of wealth tax, let's just close the tax loopholes that allows people to borrow on assets (take on debt) to avoid taxes. Even Trump brought this up during the debates.

@Nithya_Shrii Hmm so there should be no homes for rent you are saying? Investors fund the construction of new homes and without investors, no new homes are built. Now the government could instead fund housing, however that would bankrupt the country....think bigger!

We are seriously on track to see the world’s first trillionaire before every human being has access to clean drinking water. Think about how insane that is.🤯 There is enough wealth on this planet to make sure nobody dies from thirst, starvation, exposure, or lack of healthcare, but instead we glorify extreme wealth accumulation while basic human needs go unmet. A system should be judged by how it treats the most vulnerable, not by how many billionaires it creates! Unbelievable.

It's disappointing to see the federal Conservatives going down this ugly and unprincipled path to try and save Poilievre's leadership. The Cowichan decision is literally about the protection of property rights & enforcing fair compensation when those property rights are violated.
Pierre Poilievre@PierrePoilievre

Without property rights, there are no economic rights. The Liberals must reverse course on the chaos they have inflicted on the people of British Columbia: conservative.ca/cpc/protect-pr…

Tax expert says parents can write off $15,750 by putting their own kids on payroll "Put them on payroll, you can pay your child up to $15,750 without your child needing to file a tax return" "That’s a $15,750 deduction" "Then from the $15,750, you can take $6,000 and stuff it into the Roth IRA, and that money is growing tax free"

IMPORTANT! I'm calling for the following boycott of all products and services related to these companies: Delta Air Lines — Donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund. X - Elon Musk owns it. Microsoft - Founder Bill Gates was friends with Epstein. Amazon — Listed among companies rolling back DEI efforts and also donated to Trump’s inaugural fund. Walmart — Pulled back on DEI programs and was listed among major companies retreating from diversity initiatives. Boeing — STOP FLYING! Donated to Trump’s inaugural fund, despite Trump’s agenda being deeply opposed by many liberals. Ford — Scaled back DEI policies and stopped participating in the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, a major LGBTQ+ workplace-equality benchmark. General Motors — Donated to Trump’s 2025 inaugural fund, alongside Ford, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Boeing, Hyundai, Stellantis, Delta, and others. Target — Ended or scaled back several DEI initiatives, including changes around supplier diversity, after conservative pressure and Trump’s anti-DEI push. McDonald’s — Scaled back DEI initiatives and was named among major U.S. companies retreating from diversity programs. Meta — Confirmed it was scaling back DEI programs; also donated to Trump’s inaugural fund. Google / Alphabet — Listed by Reuters among major companies that dropped or considered altering DEI policies after Trump’s executive order; Alphabet also donated to Trump’s inaugural fund. Lowe’s — Named by AP among prominent companies pulling back on DEI initiatives. Hyundai — Its U.S. unit donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund. Stellantis — Donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund. AT&T — Said it would end DEI programs in connection with seeking FCC approval for a spectrum-license acquisition. T-Mobile — Also moved to terminate DEI efforts while seeking federal approval for telecom deals. Verizon — Secured approval for its Frontier acquisition after agreeing to dismantle its DEI program. Also please smash all your smartphones as they are made using child labor, burn most of your clothes and destroy your sneakers as they are mostly made in sweat shops. Whie you are at it please also stop breathing oxygen as it's shared with many of the CEOs of the companies liosted above. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

@igvolow @aibytekat Sure, not everyone gets promoted who takes on more work....but your chances improve. It's the mindset different between a "job" and a "career". If your mindset is more "job" then agree.

@EngSense @aibytekat I’ve seen enough people get suckered into being 70 hour/week beasts of burden, while bonuses and promotions went instead to boss’ drinking buddies and other assorted cronies, that I can’t take your advice seriously.
EngSense@EngSense

@aibytekat This is fine advice for a person not wanting to be considered for promotions in the future. Short term pain, long term gain! Be useful, be positive, don't complain, get promoted.
