It was truly a blessing for me and my wife to travel with The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square to Brazil. I am grateful for this assignment as it is something I never dreamed of doing. Accompanying the @TheTabChoir in my home country, in the very city where I grew up, was an incredible experience. These concerts were invitations to come unto Christ, the true source of hope. I am thankful for the Choir and Orchestra for sharing their talents with thousands this week in Brazil and around the world.

I wish I could’ve been in the room. Most people there had probably listened to the choir in general conference and elsewhere for years. To be among so many faithful saints hearing the songs of the gospel in their own language for the first time would be unforgettable.

The Tabernacle Choir performed in São Paulo this weekend. Hearing them sing in Portuguese was incredible. Music is probably the hardest thing to translate. As a result, you get interesting lines such as “Hosana! Hosana! Ao Deus de Belém” (Hosanna, hosanna, to the God of Bethlehem). A title of Christ that isn’t really used in English.

A few quotes from Gordon B Hinkley in the October, 2001 general conference, shortly after the U.S. responded from 9/11 attacks: “On television we see those of the military leaving their loved ones, knowing not whether they will return. It is affecting the homes of our people. Unitedly, as a Church, we must get on our knees and invoke the powers of the Almighty in behalf of those who will carry the burdens of this campaign. “No one knows how long it will last. No one knows precisely where it will be fought. No one knows what it may entail before it is over. We have launched an undertaking the size and nature of which we cannot see at this time. “Occasions of this kind pull us up sharply to a realization that life is fragile, peace is fragile, civilization itself is fragile … “Now, all of us know that war, contention, hatred, suffering of the worst kind are not new … “Let us be prayerful. Let us pray for righteousness. Let us pray for the forces of good. Let us reach out to help men and women of goodwill, whatever their religious persuasion and wherever they live. Let us stand firm against evil, both at home and abroad. Let us live worthy of the blessings of heaven, reforming our lives where necessary and looking to Him, the Father of us all. He has said, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Ps. 46:10) … “Are these perilous times? They are. But there is no need to fear. We can have peace in our hearts and peace in our homes. We can be an influence for good in this world, every one of us. “May the God of heaven, the Almighty, bless us, help us, as we walk our various ways in the uncertain days that lie ahead. May we look to Him with unfailing faith. May we worthily place our reliance on His Beloved Son, who is our great Redeemer, whether it be in life or in death, is my prayer in His holy name, even the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

The counsel to stand in holy places becomes especially meaningful when the world around us feels unsettled—when confusion presses upon our minds and concern weighs on our hearts. My time this weekend at the Laie Hawaii Temple, BYU–Hawaii, and the Polynesian Cultural Center has reminded me again how vital this counsel truly is. Here, I see students choosing to stand in holy places—not only by where they are, but by how they live. As we place our trust in Jesus Christ, He does not remove every challenge, but He does give us strength to face them. In Him, we find steadiness, peace, and hope—even in difficult times.

"We invite each of you during this Easter season to “seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written” (Ether 12:41). As you do so, we testify that your Easter celebrations can strengthen your own faith and testimony that “death is conquered; man is free. Christ has won the victory” (“He Is Risen!” “Hymns,” No. 199). Full message at thechurchnews.com/leaders/2026/0…

My earnest prayer is that we will seize on the opportunity to study the Old Testament this year—not just read, but ponder, pray, and relish the truth we find in the scriptures.

President Oaks shares four impressions that will draw us closer to our Savior: First, strengthen our faith in Him. Second, increase our humility. Third, seek help from others. And fourth, be patient. #BYUDevo

In recent days, my wife Harriet and I attended the funeral of a dear friend's wife. This heartrending experience—combined with the recent loss of our wonderful leaders, President Russell M. Nelson and President Jeffrey R. Holland—has stirred within me tender reflections about life, love, and eternity. When we lose someone we love, we mourn deeply—but we also rejoice in Christ. We know that our lives do not end with death. The love God plants in our hearts is eternal. Covenant connections continue beyond the veil. Farewells are real, but they carry the quiet promise: Auf wiedersehen—until we meet again. Jesus Christ will carry us through the valleys of grief. He heals broken hearts and His infinite sacrifice assures holy reunions. Because of Him, our grief can be temporary. Because of Him, our joy can be eternal.
