SysAdmin. I Hyper-V stuff, PowerShell things, and write about how I broke it. Performance traces or it didn't happen. He/him. Oxford comma.

Very happy to share VMSS Flexible Orchestration is now Generally Available! This goes a long way to overall simplify Azure VM deployment and management, and helps you build out your VMs faster. 👀 #MSIgnite aka.ms/vmssflex/ga-an…

@marypcbuk Are all of the focus groups carried out in a Microsoft conference room with a Surface Hub as the only display unit and no other apps allowed on the screen at the same time? (I'm having a difficult time letting go of my hypothesis)

@EricSiron they do UI focus groups for eg Windows 11 but only with people who actually *live in Seattle*; they deliberately pick people who don't work at Microsoft but I think that ends up selecting out the power users!

I look at how Microsoft thinks people use Office toolbars and titlebars: lots of space to put in teams buttons & buttons that are just ads & buttons for autosave I'll never use and then I look at how power users like me use titlebars and toolbars and all that empty space is full

Is the "background" music loud enough? I can still hear a few of the things the speakers say. #MSIgnite

@jon_agnew @jsnover Amazon has recommended books to me that I wrote. Not sure if that's a bad algorithm or a clever insult.

Few companies have more info about me than Amazon and they are advertising a Romance novel to me. I'm trying to decide whether that says more about Amazon, AI, or both. #epicfail

I have a baccalaureate and I'm working toward my master's so I'm certainly not anti-degree by any means. But who in the world believes that this is the proper exchange rate?

@jsnover @JustinWGrote I don't know about other verticals, but in mine, I have yet to encounter a single LOB software vendor that supports their software running on a no-GUI server. Getting them away from session 0 was a big win and we're not completely done with that fight.

@JustinWGrote I tried to get it named something like: Windows Server with Desktop Experiences for admins that don't want to invest in their careers and learn how to run a proper server environment. I was told that was too long. Then Marketing stopped inviting me to meetings. Go figure.

One of the more difficult things that we got changed was the framing of Server "core" and "full" to: Windows Server Windows Server with Desktop Experience

@nicolefv Oh but don’t you know that “if you’re not the right person” that you owe it to them to drop everything you’re doing and search the co. directory for “the person [they] should be talking to” because if you won’t do the sales weasels’ jobs for them then why do you even exist?

I personally believe the strength of Windows as a platform is the number of different app models it supports and the fact that it can be whatever you want it to, but there's an enormous tension between the demands of openness, backcompat and security

everyone always wants Windows to be more secure and more modern (and more like a Mac) and when Microsoft does the thing (Windows S, say), everyone says 'oh no, not like *that*; we meant more secure and more modern but also with all the convenient insecurities and backcompat'

Hey boys, if a woman gets snot-slingin drunk, kite-flyin high, strips bare naked, and strolls down the grossest of alleys at the darkest of night, she still doesn't deserve to be assaulted. #SarahEverard
