@jsnover Fair but what have you heard about the uncertain future or roadmap of WINUI3?

@michaelhedgpeth I don't make recommendations about Windows GUIs. That's just a path to disappointing people.

@jsnover Great article! As someone who is getting ready to add a WINUI3 app to my ecosystem: what's uncertain about its roadmap? In your story it's the unification point, but you still don't recommend it?

I spent 8 years at hashtag#DEC watching the deal get worse. At first I thought it was just the economy. Then I reverse-engineered what was actually happening. It was a deliberate strategy. And I think you're going to see it again. New post: jsnover.com/blog/2026/03/1…

@Slav636 I show the request for proposals and gave it a shot. I had very little expectation that anything would come of it

Let's have the hard conversation about Engineering total compensation: A few years ago, we got an AWESOME deal. Now we have a GREAT deal. Soon we'll have a GOOD deal. Then... we'll have deal. The first 1/2 of my career was a deal. I was a consistent top performer at DEC for 8 years. One bonus: $800. That's what my dad's entire career looked like too. We've been living in very unusual times. SAVE EARLY / SAVE OFTEN.

If you are not occasionally overwhelmed by what is going on with AI, you are either: 1) Not paying attention. 2) Not understanding what you are seeing. 3) Made of much sturdier stuff than I.

Another Scary Microsoft Lawyers Incident or Don’t be on the Wrong Side of Antitrust A major vendor CEO had aggressively demanded that Microsoft cancel the PowerShell project and use their proprietary language instead. When I refused, he filed an antitrust complaint. Enter the scary Microsoft Lawyers. jsnover.com/blog/2026/03/0…

Disclaimer: I'm completely ignorant about OpenClaw, but I gave a shot at plugging Microsoft AdaptiveCards to it. Effectively this means that in any conversation with any plugin/extension you get a rich UI built in like in the example below. Apologies if this was done wrong, I didn't spent much time on it, just wanted to see what this could unlock. Repo: github.com/matvelloso/ope…

Back in the day when conversational UIs took off, at Microsoft we felt that we needed a new UI language for them. So adaptivecards.io became a thing. The idea was simple: The developer shouldn't worry about designing every pixel on the screen, but instead they should focus on what they want the user to see, what to ask, etc. If done this way, the same UI could adapt to whatever channel it was used on: Text messages, WhatsApp, web, mobile, Slack or even purely via voice. This was way before LLMs came to be. I now look at this and think that LLMs need to speak a language like this natively. For example, if you go to Gemini today and ask it to only respond conforming to adaptivecards.io, it does a pretty decent job at that. Essentially your conversation becomes a graphical user interface with a single system prompt. Obviously there's always the need to go full UI and pixel perfect (Photoshop, games, etc) but that's only part of the interaction.
