@rythmlegend @reddit_lies My dad was awesome and was married to my mom for 35 years until he, sadly, passed away from cancer. I judge all men against him and all of you are shitbags, sorry to say.

@MetamateDaz Yeah it's wild until you place it in the context of where we started and what living like a wild stone age human in nature was like

You’re born onto a planet you never asked to exist on… and society immediately hits you with: “Okay, now go earn the right to eat, sleep, rest, and have shelter.” Like… zoom out for a second. We’re floating on a rock in infinite space and we created a game where you have to spend most of your life working just to not starve or freeze to death. The whole concept is actually insane when you think about it.

@librarythingtim Because it was cool, exaggerating the strangeness of the antagonists made the 300 movie more like a comic book, it didn't make the movie more lame or more woke.

The dudes who thought this a reasonable portrayal of the Achaemenid Persians are now crying foul at the accuracy of the Nolan's Odyssey.

I'm so grateful to the Australian government for all the new taxes on the wealthiest 1%. No one should be able to own investments without paying most of the gains as tax, it's just common sense. Contribute to others more in need. Thank you Albo

What’s the best right wing coded movie that was clearly not intended to be for a right wing audience? You’re not allowed to say The Matrix.

@Timcast Drinking plain black coffee is a taste I developed when I was having several coffees a day in the office and it was getting unhealthy with the cream and sugar. It is in fact a really healthy drink without cream and sugar.

@DelusionPosting The idea that a medieval peasant had a better life than a first worlder of today in even a single aspect is completely ignorant of historical reality.

A runaway trolley is speeding toward five people tied to the tracks, but pulling the lever will divert it onto another track where one person is tied down — except that one person is a doctor carrying organs that would save six dying patients, one of whom is the scientist who will cure a pandemic caused by a virus engineered to stop an AI that became self-aware after being trained on simulations of moral dilemmas. You can instead push a large man off a bridge to stop the trolley, but the large man is your future self sent back in time after discovering that the five people on the tracks eventually become dictators who start a nuclear war that wipes out humanity — except one secretly adopts a child who grows up to prevent an asteroid from destroying Earth in 200 years. Meanwhile, the trolley company is unionized, the tracks run through private property, the organs were harvested from clones who may or may not have souls, the AI insists it is conscious and begs you not to kill anyone because suffering is immoral, a utilitarian philosopher says sacrificing one is mathematically correct, a deontologist says touching the lever is murder, a virtue ethicist asks what a good person would do, and a contractarian points out nobody signed up to be in trolley experiments in the first place. Complicating matters further, the trolley is powered by a kitten whose happiness level directly determines the stability of spacetime, and every second you hesitate creates a parallel universe where Reddit users argue about whether you made the wrong choice forever.

@GhostFoap @dumbtwt7 @ma1ybe It's not a system. Hard dangerous labour is the norm, it's existed since we picked up a stick and learned to make stone tools. A well run orderly modern society where most of us do thinking work is the miracle achievement of our time.

It’s always funny how men have to invent the most unrealistic scenario imaginable just to justify mistreating women. Firefighters are literally emergency workers paid to save lives, but in their fantasy world, a woman having boundaries somehow cancels their professionalism.

@CarlZha That's not true at all, it's hard to believe but the truth is they had a huge agricultural base and sophisticated bureaucratic systems for their time along with mass conscription. Yes some exaggeration existed but there's strong evidence to suggest they fielded enormous armies.

Song Dynasty scholar 沈括 Shen Kuo actually analyzed why ancient records from Warring States Period regularly show half million men in battle. Out of 100,000 troops, only 70,000 are combat troops, 30,000 are supply troops. Then you need 300,000 corvee labor to ship grain to support these 100,000 men. So to talk up your victory, you would count all the men mobilized for your enemy's war effort. That's how you get Wu Qi led 50,000 Wei elite troops to crush 500,000 Qin troops in battle.

@dumbtwt7 @ma1ybe Well yeah because it would be low % at best for rapists, the vast majority of men are not criminals. Meanwhile up to 40% of men are blue collar workers doing the hard, dangerous and exhausting shit that keeps modern civilization humming along.

@Joaxe001 @Oldhankdoneit Literally hundreds of distinct people's and kingdoms which were for the most part absorbed into the empire via conquest. As a man of Chinese descent you're delusional if you can't recognise this historical fact.

@Oldhankdoneit It's quite simple; it's because civilizations think differently. Generally speaking, Chinese civilization doesn't have the mentality of "If I'm stronger than you, I'll definitely rob you." It's an introverted civilization.

@peterrhague true, but more roads will never solve the congestion issue. Because the size of the CBD the population (which increases over time) is trying to get into every day for work stays the same. Trains really are a necessary prerequisite for a liveable city.

>Raised for 18 years >harsh training for 13 weeks >Fed daily >Dies from a bullet fired by a 7 year old with no training. The futility of war really gets pretty badly exposed with thinking about how much goes into something that ends in a second. In the past you could argue the sword play required some kind of skill and all that training meant something - there was a contesting of wills and an art to it. These days, it's entirely nonexistent. War really does seem fake and gay.

@thechosenberg It's weird I'm seeing either total idiots painting the landlord as a bad person here or others who are only comfortable pinning this on the tenant because "he's a boomer who finally experienced what we have experienced".
