Across many communities, youth with disabilities often face limited opportunities to participate in decision-making and advocacy. Last week in Kitui and Nyeri Counties, the launch of the Vijana Tunaweza Project by UDPK in partnership with the Danish Association of Youth with Disabilities marked a shift from barriers to possibility. Young people engaged in dialogue, mentorship, and learning sessions focused on understanding their rights and navigating systems to advocate effectively. What set this initiative apart was the collaboration, bringing together County Government representatives and youth-led organizations to create a space where participation was intentional and meaningful. The result is a growing network of informed and confident young advocates, supported by organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) and strengthened through continuous dialogue. This is how sustainable, inclusive change begins. #Inclusion #YouthLeadership #DisabilityRights #Partnerships

Great News! The Persons with Disabilities Policy 2024 has been approved by the Cabinet today! Additionally, the Cabinet reinforced Kenya’s commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities by approving the Persons with Disabilities National Policy, 2024. Despite previous efforts, many individuals with disabilities continue to face barriers to education, employment, and social participation. The policy, developed through extensive public engagement, focuses on increasing awareness, enhancing accessibility, promoting economic empowerment, and ensuring dignity and autonomy for persons with disabilities.

"We need to enforce laws, strengthen law enforcement sensitization, and expand recovery centers beyond Nairobi. Most importantly, we must create safe spaces where people can openly discuss and report GBV cases" @SallyNduta1 Access the article for more from our CEO, Sally Nduta during the launch of our strategic plan 2025 - 2029. #UdpkAt36 #36YearsOfImpact kenyanewspost.co.ke/2025/02/06/udp…

"UDPK played a key role by providing technical and financial resources towards the Persons with Disabilities National Policy. UDPK also funded the public participation forums on the #PersonswithDisabilities #Bill 2023 that was passed by parliament and ensured that the realities of persons with disabilities were captured." Today, we honor the power of #education as a fundamental #humanright and the driving force for #SustainableDevelopment. As we celebrate, we acknowledge that barriers to education still persist—especially for learners with #disabilities. However, we also recognize the incredible strides being made to ensure the realization of #InclusiveEducation for all. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to persons with disabilities and their representative organizations. Your lived experiences, courage in highlighting barriers, and consistent #advocacy for inclusive #policy implementation inspire us all to reimagine inclusive education. #InternationalDayOfEducation

This week's stakeholders' engagement forum in Narok to kick-off the Shayiri (barley) project was productive. We were privileged to engage with representatives from Narok County's Departments of Agriculture, #Environment, and Social Services, as well as teams from EABL and the Cereals Growers Association. The forum centered on driving disability-inclusive practices within the barley value chain. We explored innovative strategies to empower farmers with disabilities, fostering sustainable livelihoods to ensure no one is left behind in agricultural development. Collaboration like this is key to creating an inclusive #agricultural projects.

SRHR Dinner Updates! Last evening, we hosted a remarkable dinner. The event featured powerful video documentaries where young persons with disabilities shared their lived experiences. Partners also contributed their perspectives, enriching the discussions. We also launched the report "Not Yet Equal: Kenyan Women with Disabilities and the Ongoing Struggle for Inclusion 30 Years after Beijing." A key highlight was the panel discussion led by youths with disabilities and partners in the SRHR space. The dialogue underscored the urgent need for inclusive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services that uphold the autonomy and rights of women and girls with disabilities. It was a memorable evening, marking an important step towards greater inclusion and equity! #16DaysOfActivism @MakeWayYP_Ke @VSOKenya @WCCKenya @KAIHHQ1 @SallyNduta1

The barrier analysis between organizations of persons with disabilities and youths with disabilities in Nairobi County brought to light issues that both parties experience when engaging one another. Among the issues include care givers' interference which hinders the meaningful participation of youths with disabilities and lack of embracing new ideas and innovations from youths with disabilities. The OPDs shared lack of work ethics, etiquette and sacrifice from the youths are some of the barriers. .#WeCanWork #YoungAfricaWorks .#WCW @MastercardFdn @ADFSecretariat @lftwworldwide @LftWKE @SallyNduta1
