This week, another New Yorker was set on fire in a subway station. Two tragedies—both preventable. The attacker was a career criminal who had been released after his latest assault when he should have been in jail. The victim was sleeping on the street when he should have been inside. It doesn’t have to be this way. We can make our streets and shelters safe by prosecuting crime and enforcing the law. Then don’t put on the USA uniform—maybe just put on ‘family and friends.’” Once again, Mike Eruzione is lifting America—just as he and his Miracle on Ice teammates did 45 years ago in Lake Placid, when they represented this nation with pride, patriotism and humility. If you wear USA across your chest, you represent the United States of America and her people. Publicly criticizing America while competing under the American flag abroad is wrong—period. This attitude reflects a troubling sense of entitlement, not sacrifice. These athletes enjoy the freedom, opportunity, and resources that only America provides—freedom that allows them to chase and achieve their dreams on the world stage. I was in Western New York this week because Albany has ignored too much of this state for too long. New Yorkers everywhere are dealing with higher taxes, rising crime, and leaders who refuse to take responsibility.

A record of results vs. disaster. Bruce Blakeman stopped a $150 million tax hike and delivered four straight years with no tax increases. Kathy Hochul? Bloated budgets. Higher taxes.
