There’s this idea that White people have to become ‘tribal’ in the way that other races are to preserve themselves. Vulgar white nationalists think going out in public to angrily lob slurs at Black people or Mexicans might engender enough agitation to accomplish this. In somehow succeeding (by making all Whites as clumsy as themselves), they would rob Whites of the qualities that make them White. It is the universal, genteel beneficence of White people that makes them White; as opposed to all sub-equatorial flavors of self-contented nationalism. Whites colonize not because they want to subjugate other races but because they want to universalize their own values; because they are not content to selfishly ‘keep to themselves.’ Whiteness is a collective reaction against collectivity, it is self-transgressive and centrifugal. The most European Europeans are not content to be ‘mere’ Europeans; they must create themselves as individuals. White nationalists, who would champion a biologically White but spiritually deracinated European, do not really even understand the meaning of Whiteness.
