You can only play three of these great MicroProse games for the rest of your life, none of the other nine. Which three would you pick? I'd go with: 1⃣ Railroad Tycoon 2⃣ Civilization II 3⃣ Master of Orion II Tougher than I thought. Leaving out Colonization was painful.

Zero chance on earth that writing code is a good use of time for the CEO of a $150b company
Amit R G@realamitrg

@TylerDurden Same haha! I built a Halo fan site that had almost daily updates about production before it launched, and was getting decent visitors per day from memory (granted, it was a while ago). Ended up moving to a new city, started working in kitchens, and forgot it.

@FoundersPodcast One of my favourite episodes of all-time. I loved Agassi as a kid, but his story is simply phenomenal.

I just want everyone to be as happy as I am. I know training isn’t easy. I know eating well isn’t easy. But I also know you’re all worth it. And if I can get you to believe you’re worth it, you’ll put in the effort that you deserve. You’ll show up for yourself.

Which classic game - let's say pre 2000 - have you played the most and still play it today, even if only occasionally? My answer is pretty simple: Civilization (MicroProse, 1991) I know, people will argue that the sequels are better. But if I go back and answer the questions based on "age of game", "impact", and also whether I "still play it today sometimes", then it's definitely Civilization. I find the concept and gameplay timeless. What would be yours? Which game do you still play to this day (sometimes at least) that dates back the furthest?

I think sometimes we forget how incredible some game studios were back in the day. Sure, some had 2 or 3 great titles and are always associated with those. But what Lucasfilm Games (later LucasArts) did is truly mind-blowing. The collection below are games from what I consider their absolute peak era, from 1985 to 1995, a decade of pure glory. Sometimes I get asked the question by friends (who didn't play games back in the day) or younger relatives if gaming in the 80s and 90s was fun. My answer is always the same: Yes, it was. Often beyond words that can truly capture the spirit and emotion fully. A very selected group of game studios played a major role in that.

In 1998, Canadian art student Deidre LaCarte created a website featuring rows of dancing hamster GIFs set to a sped-up tune. She made it to compete with her sister and a friend over who could get the most web traffic in a year- and it quickly became one of the earliest internet memes. The catchy song is actually a sped-up version of “Whistle Stop” from Disney’s 1973 film Robin Hood.

Not many games had a better '80s vibe than California Games (Epyx, 1987). The disciplines were half-pipe, footbag, surfing, roller skating, BMX, and flying disc - quite the mix. Getting bonus points for hitting the seagull with the hacky sack, faceplanting over a crack in the sidewalk along the beach, or unsuccessfully diving for an overthrown frisbee; California Games was just a blast. Apart from being fun, it became Epyx's best-selling game, reaching half a million units by 1989. I remember it being a popular choice when my friends and I played (others being M.U.L.E. and Decathlon). I'm pretty sure that anyone who ever had a C64 also played California Games at some point. As brilliant as it was, its sequel was abysmal.
