🚨 The EU’s own GSP+ report confirms what EuroPak raised with the @EP_Trade Monitoring Group (INTA) this July: arbitrary detention without charge or trial, enforced disappearances, the detention of a former Prime Minister without fair trial guarantees, and military trials of civilians that fail ICCPR Article 14 standards. GSP+ is a privilege, not an entitlement: genuine, verifiable reform or reconsider preferential access. @EUPakistan @EP_HumanRights

BREAKING 🚨 : The European Commission's 2023-2025 GSP+ assessment of Pakistan raises serious concerns about the independence of the judiciary, accountability of the military and respect for the rule of law. It also states that the detention of opposition supporters and leaders, including "a former Prime Minister", raises concerns about fair trial rights, detention conditions and access to lawyers, visitors and medical care, and concludes that military trials do not meet international fair trial standards (ICCPR Article 14). The Commission recommends strengthening fair trial and access to justice, reversing human rights backsliding and ensuring accountability for violations. We would like to thank all those who worked with the PWA, and independently, in taking these cases to the EU Commission. We shall continue to engage and exert pressure for even more meaningful outcomes that are required, and tangible results as per the recommendations, by the end of this cycle in December 2026. Justice cannot survive where corruption is systemic. The latest @fidh_en report raises grave concerns about corruption, judicial independence, and equal access to justice in Pakistan. An independent judiciary is the foundation of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. The EU Human Rights Report on Pakistan, expected this month, will assess developments against international human rights standards. Publicly reported concerns include the arbitrary detention of former Prime Minister @ImranKhanPTI , including prolonged solitary confinement, restrictions on family and legal access, and access to medical care. The 2024 UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found his detention to be arbitrary, while the 2026 UN Committee Against Torture expressed concerns about the treatment of Mr. Khan and Bushra Bibi and called for protection from torture and ill-treatment and access to appropriate medical care. Relevant standards include the ICCPR, the Convention Against Torture, and the Mandela Rules. @EP_Trade @anouarEUspox @FCDOGovUK

PAKISTAN: Zubair Shah Agha, a core committee member of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), was arbitrarily detained on 28 June after attending a press conference organized by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) in Quetta on the sentencing of Mahrang Baloch. He has since been held in administrative detention under section 3 of Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO). Zubair Agha's detention is the latest in a growing pattern of Pakistani authorities using administrative detention powers to arbitrarily deprive activists, journalists and human rights defenders of their liberty. Similar to Zubair, Syed Bibi Baloch was taken into administrative detention under MPO on 1 July in Turbat, Balochistan after a peaceful protest was announced regarding Mahrang’s sentencing. On 20 June, journalist Ahmad Farhad was also detained under MPO in Bagh, Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, where he remains in custody. Pakistani authorities must immediately release Zubair Shah Agha, Syed Bibi Baloch and Ahmad Farhad, and end the misuse of administrative detention laws to suppress peaceful dissent and uphold the rights to liberty, freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.

After months of legal setbacks and political uncertainty, @Aleema_KhanPK has announced she will personally lead a public movement demanding the release of her brother, @Imran, held in detention since August 2023. The call has drawn a strong public response, with supporters gathering in large numbers to launch the campaign reflecting the depth of concern surrounding Khan’s continued detention. The international community must take note. @ICJ_org @UNHumanRights

The European Parliament has just adopted a resolution on Pakistan and the message on trade privileges is clear. ⚠️ It explicitly warns: Pakistan's continued failure to implement its human rights commitments should result in the withdrawal of its GSP+ status. The resolution also:
🔴 Raises serious concern over the misuse of blasphemy, anti-terrorism & cybercrime laws to target minorities, opponents & civil society.
