It’s obv important to not overemphasise stuff like this, but the Newcastle by-election had the lowest vote for the majors that I’ve seen in NSW. 16% for Labor and 7% for Libs. I actually can’t point to any other poll they both contested and did this bad.

@LeftieStats @TheOneCalledMe The fact that the Greens can do better does not absolve Corbyn and co. from the charge of being sectarian, bureaucratic, and controlling. It in fact makes it worse when there are Greens members more confident in saying this than YP socialists whose party is being shredded.

@TheOneCalledMe the Greens are a thousand times more democratic than YP lol, we select our candidates directly in membership ballots, you impose them from above through the CEC. We make policy through debates at conference, your CEC blocks all policy debates and just follows Our Jeremy

The far right are polling a similar level here as they are in the UK. Better even. The main difference is that 6% swing for the Greens, and the desertion of Labor voters to separatist parties in Scotland and Wales.

@EvComrade Is this written down anywhere or is there a photo? Just trying to find proof of this but it doesn't look like the NUS keeps public records of who holds the Queer Office

@RodneyCroome Stahel posits that a refusal by Labor/Greens to listen and build bridges with the right is why the One Nation vote booms. It sounds good in abstract but evidence matters. What are examples of this by the Labor right Premier in SA today? How has he been too antagonistic to bigots?

Peter Stahel’s warnings entirely apply to LGBTIQA Australians: We must listen to those with whom we disagree. We must reach out our hands to them. We must build bridges. And we must do it yesterday. thenewdaily.com.au/news/politics/…

@Peggysknapsack @PatrickLenton EA is very collaborative with the Zionist groups and compliant with Labor, so I don’t think it’s that smart lobbyists can’t see. I think it’s that NGOs want to get easy wins to present to donors, and Labor want headlines to ward off pressure.

They gang-raped a Palestinian so brutally he was hospitalised. They did it on camera. When footage leaked, and the rapists were arrested, Israelis rioted to protect them. They said they had the right to rape. The Israeli lawyer who leaked the footage was arrested. This is Israel.

There’s something really satisfying about building a union meeting and rolling a right wing bureaucrat who thought members were too meek to stand up.

@Southpawpunch @LeftieStats But this is the crux of the issue, right. There is often a narrow claim that the reason the Greens fold in these positions is they’re insufficiently radical or not a working class base. This plays a role, but parliamentary roads will falter no matter the depth of red or green.

@EvComrade @LeftieStats The 'Trotskyist' mayor is not such. We don't administer capitalism. While there is debate about whether executive officer should be accepted, there's no argument you don't do such. Unless they are out/imprisoned/killed in months, or soviets formed etc they're just a radical Left.

If this correct, will be end of perception of Greens as Left. They'd need to be as vicious in their austerity as current Labour bosses of inner London councils that may turn their way - or break the law. No-one Greens is talking about standing to fight as some Labour did in 80s.

@Southpawpunch @LeftieStats And to push this to a higher level, the formally socialist Syriza who has many working class voters also caved to IMF. Which I say not to be defeatist, but rather we should acknowledge the pressure is consistent and there’s no easy response to it.

@Southpawpunch @LeftieStats I think the reality is that this is a challenge for socialist parties as well. We have a Trotskyist mayor in one of our cities, but when the early childhood educators asked for a payrise he said they could get Xmas gifts from families instead because the budget was ‘tight’.

@LeftieStats @Southpawpunch And it is a test not of moral fibre, but of the depth of organisation and support. Does the party have the ability to organise the community in resistance to defy the authorities? Or will it be constrained and get slowly whittled down by the positions of power?

@LeftieStats @Southpawpunch I think the fundamentals are the same, but when the Greens won some councils in Australia we faced this issue. Namely, that even good people would see themselves as forced to cut things for working ppl or be put into administration.
