I received a DM from a dad with a son at a different program, wondering how to get his son some exposure/recruited. He said their head coach isn't much help. Now there are two scenarios at play. His son isn't that good and the coach doesn't want to put the reputation of the program on the line. OR... The head coach doesn't understand the role he plays in getting his kids exposure and opportunities to be seen. The best promotor and connector for players and college coaches is the head high school football coach! So high school coaches. Be honest with your kids and parents about your evaluation of them, if you will promote them, how to get exposure, etc. And if you have a kid that's worth promoting, then do the work! Get their recruiting resume in order, reach out to coaches on X, DMs, emails, encourage site visits, etc. Encourage your kids to attend the college hosted camp, SAQ/lift/fundamental training, be a leader, set the example, get good grades, be "that guy" and he will have put his best foot forward. Also remind him there is no problem playing FCS or D2 ball. There are amazing programs out there, where you can get a great education while playing the best game there is. Everyone has a role in this process. Just gotta define roles, responsibilities and then do the work!

Don’t confuse ACTIVITY with PRODUCTIVITY. As a coach, “putting in time” is the most over stated and wasted aspect of sports. When everything you do is mapped out and intentional, then you increase your efficiency and effectiveness. Work smarter not harder.
