How do you promote sustainability in your classroom? @ABCEducationAU is a great online, easily accessible resource to use! I love having 3 bins in the classroom with 1 labelled as "what can we make?" for S to place any loose materials or rubbish to repurpose! #UoNTeach #educ4750

@Brook_bailey_98 I would love to set a "project challenge" for the class where students are to design their own sustainable vegetable garden where one will be chosen to use as the design for the whole school vegetable garden project!

@EvePollard_ Get out, that is awesome! An interactive way to create their own ICT version of a vege garden. I really like this activity. How would you include this in your classroom?

@Meeeeese Thank you Mitch, I would love to use this video in the classroom as a topic introduction for students to complete a research project on the objects in their school environment and present whether they believe it is all just rubbish!

@JuliaCutajar Using PBE to support recycling I would give S a topic list where they select one they are passionate about & create a piece from the topic out of recyclable materials! Giving S a choice in what they want supports their agency and promotes a mastery of higher academic standards!

@JuliaCutajar Thank you for this important point Julia! I do believe it is never too early to involve students to be active global citizens and have a basic understanding of the environment and it's impacts made by us as humans.

@EvePollard_ This is an excellent idea! Early exposure in an age-appropriate way is crucial to developing environmentally conscience individuals.

In the US in 2018, 292.4m tons of trash were generated, 146.1m tons ended up in landfill. What a great conversation starter for your classroom to lead it with a think, pair, share to get the students brain thinking and to reflect on this appalling fact! #SDG12 #UoNTeach #educ4750

@BrittAckroyd Thank you Brittany! That is definitely true, this activity could be linked to a topic that still incorporates learning about sustainability with the materials used! So many opportunities here!

@EvePollard_ A rocket ship, how cool! I would incorporate Art and get students to trace their shadows with materials and then decorate their shadow. Great idea for responsible consumption!

@JuliaCutajar Thank you for your thoughts Julia! Hands-on learning is definitely being implemented more within 21st Century learning and receives high engagement from both students and teachers for learning.

@EvePollard_ I love the emerging use of natural materials in schools as it's incredibly engaging. In the sense of getting the students out in nature, using hands-on activities, whilst being environmentally conscience!

How can learning be taught using natural materials? Save on plastic resources and use the environmental materials to teach numeracy to children which still achieves the same goal and is more engaging! Little things working towards a more sustainable future. #UoNTeach #educ4750

We like to start off the year with lots of counting. Using natural materials and ten frames to count outside today! #mathbehaviours #outdoorlearning #kindergarten #naturalmaterials

@biancaljamison What a great idea Bianca! We could also do a workshop with students where they can make their own beeswax wraps and bring these every day to school to wrap their lunches whilst also learning about its sustainable benefits.

Carpenter et al (2014) highlight that Twitter is most used by educators for communication + sharing of resources. Do you agree that this is a positive platform for teachers to combat isolation and connect with colleagues? Share your thoughts.. #UoNTeach #educ4750

@Brook_bailey_98 What a great piece of literature to use Brook! Not only are students learning about SDG12 but they are learning to pose questions, inquire, collaborate and investigate whilst engaging in both literacy and science syllabus outcomes!

Another great piece of literature to be used in teaching about #SDG14. By introducing students to sea pollution and enabling them to become global citizens and think sustainability. I will definitely be using this book in my teaching. #UoNTeach #Educ4750
Jade Riley@ril78660724

This book ‘The Mess That We Made’ is an excellent resource written by Michelle Lord, that encapsulates global awareness of sea pollution and environmentalism. This book enables students to think critically about the future of our planet. #SDG14 #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach

@Brook_bailey_98 S could work in pairs where one creates a world where an ocean is contaminated with rubbish and the other creates a world where the ocean is rubbish free and the surrounding environment is clean! Students could then write down the effects these 2 worlds have on the environment!

Minecraft is a great way to incorporate 21st Century skills into students learning. And what a great way to engage students interactively into big issues such as #SDG14. How would you utilise #minecraft in teaching about Life Below Water? #UoNTeach #Educ4750

@Brook_bailey_98 I definetly agree! It is very hard for teachers to be able to brainstorm all ideas themselves, which is why Twitter is so great for resource sharing and connecting with other educators!
