I do hope he manages to get in some practice at carrying a big conical thing that’s burning at one end.

@Andymack When I want to play a record I usually think “I want to play some soul” or whatever. I never say “I’d like to play something beginning with k”. So genres make more sense to me. True, genres can be blurry, but it’s your collection and you’ll know what genre you think it is

Record collecting people, currently my albums are all in alphabetical order but I'm thinking about rejigging things & sorting them by genre. Is this a mad idea? Where do you even start? What genres? Do you end up arguing with yourself over where something goes? So many questions

Not seen this before. Behind the scenes Paul McCartney interview - the rehearsal with Parkinson when David Gilmour and Ian Paice were in the band. McCartney very relaxed and informal. Great stuff youtu.be/SLncY7Q1hIQ?si…

@biiilyedwards Went there last week for the second time in a month. It’s much improved from how it was five years ago.

Some other bits from today. Went to Revolver Records. Nice clean Veedon Fleece to replace my slightly worn one. Bought Specials EP for Sophie as she doesn't have it 😱. All singles £2!

@MichaelAHann Judas Priest would be an ideal booking for an early afternoon Pyramid stage / Other stage slot like ZZ Top and Motörhead a few years ago.

@WeBuyRecordsPod Ten plus years ago I bought AC/DC’s Live at the Atlantic Recording Studios for £15 from a stall in Spitalfields market and for about an hour or so convinced myself it was the real thing. Hadn’t realised it was quite a common counterfeit. Originals only issued to radio &are £100+

@SighVeaney @caitlinmoran IKWYM, but was a protest against being called “boy” by white people so is subtly defiant / calling out racism

On this week's Loose Ends we tried to work out if there are any modern songs about how great it is to be a boy, or a man - in the way that there are millions of songs about how great it is to be a woman - that aren't beligerent, but just joyful. Can you think of any?

"We haven't found a way to talk about being proud about being a man in a way that doesn't sound threathening to women" @caitlinmoran on why we need more “boys pop”. Loose Ends | Listen on BBC Sounds @BBCSounds bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

@AXS_UK I queued for 20 minutes for the McCartney pre-sale, sticking to a single browser etc, and then received this message. Can you please tell me why?

One of the advantages of working in A&R, as I did two decades ago, was seeing bands that would go on to become huge in tiny venues. I saw the Black Keys at The Metro (remember that venue off Oxford St?) with about 50 other people. First UK show. Brilliant.

@ryeandwry Ah, I see what you mean. Yeah, requires DVD with surround sound speakers to get the benefit. KEF in London have an exhibition you can go to for two weeks from Friday where you can hear the album in surround sound on their system.

Had this DVD insert for ten years. Came with the 40th anniversary LP re-release. Playing the 5.1 version for the first time tonight. Interesting to hear in 5.1. Anyone here a big fan of 5.1? I may pop down to @KEFAudio exhibition to hear on a proper system

@ryeandwry @KEFAudio I found it okay, but not sufficiently exciting to want to rip up my hifi and start again. That may just be because I am playing it through a twenty year old DVD player and very average (and small) DVD “home cinema” speakers
