In my book (Keeping the Dream Alive published this week) I argue that there is prima facie evidence of a conspiracy to bring Alex Salmond down. You can read an extract below. Evidence published in ⁦@Sunday_Mail⁩ today supports my thesis. thetimes.com/article/41295c…

@jollyman56 @staylorish Creating a "Scotland only grid" does not sound a remotely practical idea. It would cost £billions and take years to implement and the end result would be to create barriers to selling to customers in England and Wales thus increasing prices for Scottish customers.

@staylorish Which parts are you referring to? I'm talking about creating a Scotland only grid from the current UK grid.

Question for those people who think Angus Robertson gave a perfectly fine answer: Which factors in the cost structure of a wind farm would change simply because Scotland had become independent? How would those changes happen?
Sam Taylor@staylorish

At the Edinburgh Central hustings tonight, I was able to put this question to Angus Robertson. His answer, I kid you not, was: “Look at other countries. If they can do it, why can’t an independent Scotland?”

@albions012 Leaving aside the, admittedly gigantic, issue of transitional arrangements, then the economic choices post Scexit are very simple. Either spending is cut to English levels or taxes increase to Scandinavian levels. Separatists are too dishonest/delusional to accept this.

@kevverage The warped Anglophobic logic of Separatists is as follows. Westminster is evil Ergo Westminster MUST be exploiting Scotland Ergo an independent Scotland would be more prosperous

i don’t have problem with “live in a cave to be free” nationalists - but i do have a problem when their pitch is that an economic utopia is the prize, rather than the more honest “come with me to live in a cave”

@MikeyTheBuddie Stop lying Mikey The arguments against Scottish independence include the obvious fact that 12% of Scottish public spending is funded by fiscal transfers from taxpayers in London area (home to 280,000 Scots)

Every argument against Scottish independence is a compromise. We all see England and Wales. No one would choose that. The ones who prefer that are silent. Faced with the facts? Nothing. Not a peep. Chris, why would we choose that? Are you happy in the UK!

Scottish nationalism: let’s chill and make Scotland a cool place to live, for everyone. US Nationalism: Bomb Iran!! Scottish unionists are more likely to support Trump, whilst telling us we’re dangerous, because it might upset Dave, from Leicester. Who couldn’t give a fuck.

@OWS1892 My grandfather was captured at Saint Valery-en Caux as part of the 51st. Highland Regiment who held the line at Dunkirk. An admiral sent a boat to get them away but Churchill ordered it to return. “ They are expendable “ was the phrase he used. My Granda was a pow for 5 years.

The people who get misty-eyed at the mere mention of WWI Tommies are furious that the man responsible for the deaths of 50k of them is having his mug removed from fivers.

Well, yet again the folk on the doors are telling us the same thing. They’re angry and fed up but they know that it’s @theSNP standing up for them. Energy rich Scotland with sky high cost of energy is a U.K. gov scandal and only independence lets us change that
Jim Fairlie SNP Candidate for PS&K-Shire@JimFairlieLogie

Heading out for another session on the doors in Craigie this afternoon, be interested to hear how folk feel here

With independence, Scotland can develop a broadcasting strategy that reflects and prioritises Scottish audiences’ needs and interests, and our creative economy, rather than those of a London-controlled corporation.

@MikeStewart79 @Stevo71Tate @theSNP 'England'? There's no such 'political' place as 'England'. We have Wales with its devolved parliament. N.Ireland. And Scotland with its devolved parliament. 'England'..nope..can't find it. Oh, and it's not very prosperous with £3TRILLION of DEBT. England-prosperous 🤣🤣

I thought I’d get in first. When the next leadership contest for Number 10 inevitably rolls around, let’s all remember one thing: swapping the name on the door won’t make a shred of difference. This government is finished. And yet, when @theSNP inevitably start cat‑calling for a general election on the basis that we have “a new PM without a mandate,” it’s worth pointing out a small detail. In Scotland, we’re now on our third First Minister since the last election: 1. @NicolaSturgeon 2. @HumzaYousaf 3. @JohnSwinney If a change at the top automatically voids a mandate, then we’ve been living in a constitutional black hole for quite some time.

😳 Scotland didn’t decline by accident, it was engineered by two parties who’ll never admit it. Labour built the devolution framework. The SNP inherited it and turned it into a 20‑year experiment in mismanagement. Health? Declining. Education? Sliding. Benefits bill? Out of control. Public services? Hollowed out. And the punchline? Labour created the structure that made all this possible, then walked away from the consequences. The SNP blame “London” for everything. Labour pretend the system they designed has nothing to do with the mess we’re in. Meanwhile, Scotland is stuck between a party that designed the trap and a party that thrives inside it. I’m pro‑UK. Always will be. But let’s stop pretending this downward spiral came from anywhere else. This is Labour and the SNP. 😳

@jimac111 @lucy9760 Even for someone as dim as you are, denying that Scottish is a subset of British is spectacularly moronic In tens of millions of years time, a new ice age or volcanic eruption might cause Scotland to separate from rest of Britain Until then Scotland is part of Britain
