Uganda has secured a GS1 global product barcode, enabling unique identification of its goods worldwide. This boosts export traceability and strengthens Uganda’s global market presence. GS1 is an ISO standard for sharing product data among trading partners.

According to PSST @rggoobi Uganda’s total export earning in Q3 of FY 2024/25 amounted to USD 2.6 billion. He said this translates to a growth of 39.1% compared to export earnings of USD 1.9 billion recorded for Q3 FY 2023/24. Ggoobi said this was as a result of improved volumes and international prices of some export commodities such as coffee and cocoa which more than doubled between the two quarters. Remittances for Q3 of FY 2024/25 were USD 304.48 million compared to USD 231.68 million recorded for Q3 of FY 2023/24. He also noted that annual headline inflation has remained subdued and within the policy target of 5%,adding that the Uganda shilling has continued to strengthen against the US Dollar. #KnowYourBudget25

Yesterday, @TradeMarkAfrica and @BSI_UK signed a Memorandum of Understanding to align African trade with international standards. From SPS digitisation to mutual recognition, this is a major boost for #AfCFTA goals & “#MadeInAfrica” exports. “Robust standards are the backbone of socially responsible, sustainable, and competitive trade,” said Richard Taylor, Knowledge Services Director at BSI. “This partnership brings together BSI’s global expertise in standards, certification and capacity building with TMA’s on-the-ground experience across Africa to enable safer, smarter, and sustainable trade.” “This is a framework for impact. Breaking into cross-border trade in Africa requires understanding and meeting complex national and regional standards. For Hawa Chloe Niyigena, founder of #WhizUpp in western Rwanda, this was a major barrier. That changed when she joined #TradeMarkAfrica (TMA) and the #RwandaStandardsBoard (RSB) partnership. The programme trained her on food safety, business management, and certification processes. Here is her story. bit.ly/3HNhiz7
